Story Proposal

The original story of Hansel and Gretel is a German fairy tale. It follows the story of two siblings, Hansel and Gretel, who are abandoned in the woods by their parents. They come across a house made of candy and sweets, which is actually the home of a wicked witch. The witch captures them, intending to eat them, but the clever siblings outsmart her and manage to escape, finding their way back home with treasures from the witch’s house. I will be changing the setting, characters, and the challenges the protagonists face. The original candy house is now a magical portal, and the siblings have unique magical abilities. I will also introduce new characters and a slight twist to the plot.

My reinterpretation will take place in a magical realm, where two extraordinary siblings, Luna and Orion, are transported through a magical portal into a mysterious magical kingdom. They will face challenges beyond candy temptations, as they face enchanted creatures and navigate a world where their unique abilities become key to survival in this mystical but dangerous land. Luna and Orion must rely on their resilience and teamwork to overcome the magical trials and find their way back home. This reinterpretation of  Hansel and Gretel could appeal to a broad audience however, it may particularly resonate with a middle-grade audience (ages 8-12) who enjoy adventurous fantasy themes.
