WEEK 9 Class Info

  • Date: 10/27/23: WEEK 9 IS Color Theory and how it connects the worlds of Editorial and Commercial Ilustration . Last Call for Inked Midterms w/o marks.

DUE WEEK 9/This Week

Objectives

  • Week 9 uses EVERYTHING we’ve learned so far and shows how Editorial Illustration overlaps with Commercial Illustration via Advertising. This class explores roles in advertising, functions of an agency, and how your own creative goals can find a source of income within. If there is no ethical consumption under capitalism—what part do you play, personally and professionally? How does color theory influence all aspects of print and how can use of the color wheel further advance your skills as an Illustrator.

Activities

Discussion

  • Reading Assignments form last week: Thoughts?
  • Drawing the News: Critique/Group Chat
  • Lecture: Newsprint and Advertising needing each other, creating an expansive field for Illustrators. Going beyond Editorial Illustration and using the same techniques with visual metaphors, we explore the purpose of Commercial Art and it’s role in the world and consumerism. Using Iconic branding and imagery, we delve into color theory and how Illustrators use color schemes to their advantage to push concepts and establish their own style.
