Experience from in-class project

The short group project that we did in class on Wednesday wasnā€™t easy because the time was limited. So we had to decide really fast what the best ideas we should include in that presentation. But overall it was really great exercise because we used new presentation software called Prezi. We chose Prezi because it looks better to us and we think that the display layouts that are available for the presentation are very interesting and there are many different options from which users can choose. For me Prezi is more professional and advanced than the PowerPoint.

Breaking the Bias Against Women in Science

Marcin, Konrad, Peter

1) Hopkins, Nancy. ā€œLetā€™s Call It ā€˜Affirmative Effort.ā€™ nytimes.com. October 3, 2012.Web.

This article was about overcoming discrimination against women in career fields like science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. According to Mrs. Hopkins more women work in STEM fields today, than they worked few years ago. According to her we canā€™t stop eliminating discrimination against women in those fields because it is still huge problem today, and most of the women canā€™t succeed in these fields.

2) Wilson, Janelle. “Get Girls Interested While They’re Young.” nytimes.com. October 3, 2012. Web.

This article was about bias against women that are interested in pursuing science degrees and positions in career fields like science. According to Mrs. Wilson, we should give more attention to subjects like science, technology, engineering and mathematics already in elementary schools, because this will help young women to get confidence and desire to pursue STEM degrees and careers. Also, it will reduce bias among men against women who are seeking science positions, already in earlier stages of education.

3)Dennis Berkey, “Put Female Students in Leadership Roles”. nytimes.com. October 3, 2012.

In this article the author speaks about the necessity to counter the bias against women. He states that this must be done mostly through education and says that there are several prospering colleges that promote women in fields which always belonged to men like science. The author strongly believes that this revolution requires personal and deep institutional involvement.

4)Jeniffer Harper, “Training and Recognition Can Make a Difference. nytimes.com. October 3, 2012.

In this entry the author conveys that the bias against women in science is still strong and the primary way to fight it is to educate the teachers. The teachers must be trained to evaluate the students solely by knowledge and skill. She also states that universities should diversify the workplace in order to slowly take away the unconscious bias.

5) Lukas, Carrie L. ā€œDonā€™t Regulate Individual Decisions.ā€ Nytimes.com. October 3, 2012. Web.

This article tells us, that today most of the bachelorsā€™ and mastersā€™ degree are earned by women. According to the author of that article, the government should not be involved in academics, but it should encourage reforms that would improve middle and high schools programs, so that all the students might be prepared to succeed in their chosen disciplines.

Business letter

Dear General Manager of Aer Lingus Airlines,

My name is Marcin Jaworski and I’m your airlines customer, very often I use your airlines services when I fly from U.S.A. to Europe. I really enjoy using your services but I have a few comments towards Aer Lingus services.

Since I remember, I’m using your service from June 2009. So far I have bought six airplane tickets in different time periods, at your website. The in-flight service is really great, I can’t say any bad word about it. Also the airport service is great too, because my luggage was never lost or damaged. The only thing with which I have problems are discounts on the tickets. Since I have bought my last ticket I didn’t receive any discount , it seems that your company doesn’t care about your old customers. I’m thinking of going to Europe this winter and I don’t know if I should use your airlines services, maybe I should look for different airlines which cares much better about their customers.

I hope you will try to do something with this problem because airline tickets are expensive anyway. So if your company could offer discounts for old customers and those who are using Aer Lingus services so often, it will bring more benefits for your airlines in form of customers. Thank you for your airline service which is great anyway and also, for your attention.

Sincerely,

Marcin Jaworski

PB&J sandwich

1) Decide what kind of jelly, peanut butter and bread you want to use to make your sandwich.

2) After the decision is made you can go to the supermarket and buy the products you need or if you have them at home use the one you have.

3) Take out the knife and plate and put it on the table together with the products.

4) Take the amount of bread slices you want to eat.

5) Open the jar with peanut butter and jelly and spread it on the bread slices.

6) Now stick the two slices of bread together and enjoy it.

7) After when you are done with eating your sandwich wash the knife and plate and put it back to the same place it was before.
