Chapter 10 focuses on recreations, attractions and clubs. These are good to know because it all deals with hospitality. I like how the beginning of the chapter it tells the reader about recreation. This means the use of time for therapeutic refreshments of ones’s body or mind. This is important because people should do this often. A person can get so trapped into work and forget to live.
Then it talks about national parks and how more than 300 million visitor attend a year. This is important in hospitality because to manage a park this huge isn’t easy. Then it goes on to talk about theme parks, which focuses on the culture, geographic and history. The first one was built in the 1920s and since then businesses grew and different attractions were added. For example, in 1928 Walt Disney created Mickey and Minnie Mouse they appeared in Steamboat Willie. Everyone knows Disney World is a giant stage where guest become part of the adventures. This had been around for years and it is the perfect job for someone looking to have fun everyday and spend time with children.
It also talks about other attractions like, Universal Studios, Hershey’s, Zoo’s, Museums which are all great reasons why hospitality is a great business.
The last thing it discusses are the clubs. Clubs are important because its like a second home but with more diversity. These clubs can range from Gold Clubs, Country Club, Social Clubs, Fraternal Clubs , etc. They talk about this because the management is set up like a hotel management structure but both do have their differences. Overall this chapter objective was to let the reader understand the many attraction, clubs, management structures, within hospitality.

Chapter 10 explores Theme Parks, Recreation Activities and Clubs
Recreation allows people to relax, have fun and be carefree. Some examples of where one can find recreation is through the parks service. Founded in 1916 by Congress to conserve park resources and to provide for their use by the public in a way that leaves them unimpaired.
One of the greatest and most well known examples of recreation would be Walt Disney World and Magic Kingdom. It is a giant theatrical stage where guests become part of Disney adventures. Epcot Center and MGM studios now called Disney Hollywood Studios are also a part of the company brand.
A competitor to Disney is Universal Studios whose main attractions are its adaptation of movies into rides. Sea world is another amusement park, but it is dedicated to the conservation of marine life. Under the Sea World umbrellas are: Busch Garden, Adventure Island and Sesame Place among others.
Other amusement parks include: Hershey, Dollywood, Legoland, Gatorland and Wet n’ Wild.
Museums such as the Smithsonian in Washington D.C and others contribute to heritage tourism, where people explore historic sites and the collective documentation of human history.
Clubs have gained prestige over the past decade. Country clubs have two or more types of membership, full membership and social membership. The difference is that full members use the facilities all year round and social members are only allowed to use the facilities for their social events.
Noncommercial recreation includes voluntary organizations, campus recreation and many others

Leisure can associate with recreation since it is also time away from work and having discretionary time. There are many places to go for recreation. There are currently 367 areas with more than 80 million acres. Each year, more than 300 million visitors go to national parks. Another type of recreation site is commercial recreations. They offer visitors outdoor activities to spectacular wilderness. Each theme park has its own unique attractions to gather visitors; Universal Studios apply movies into their rides. People can also go to Water Park for leisure. Animals can be attrition. Museums and historical region are always crowded with tourists. This is called heritage tourism. Chapter 10 introduces the recreation, leisure, and clubs in hospitality industry. Since governments get income from people’s income taxes, sales taxes, and property taxes, they begin to invest more capital in Government-Sponsored Recreation. National parks, public recreation are the examples of the United State. Besides, there are commercial recreations, attractions, in the society. The theme park from all over the world is a kind of commercial recreation. There are many attractions such as Walt Disney, Universal Studios, Sea World Parks, Hershey Park, Dollywood, Legoland everyone should been there at least one time. In addition, this industry is made up by animal attractions, historic places/sites, museums, performance arts. Club is getting more and more popular in our industry. Management should be different in various clubs. Noncommercial recreation such as Voluntary organizations, Campus Recreation, Armed Forces Recreation, Employee Recreation, Recreation for special populations are the industry which need to manage with hospitality management technique.

  7. Chapter 10 starts off with a focus on “recreation” and “leisure”. Both of these terms come into play when discussing vacationing, tourism, and for that matter. Another form of recreation are public parks, which are created to implement happiness and relaxation. National parks span over millions of acres of land and are scattered nationwide. There are many types of parks created for relaxation such as theme parks. Theme parks were around for decades and continue to bring in a large sum of revenue to this day. Walt disney was a man from Kansas with a vision of success thus creating Mickey and Minnie mouse two iconic disney characters which generated the most charisma of their time. From there both characters appeared in multiple films which were created in technicolor, disney also expanded his vision and created the Magic Kingdom then the theme park Disney World. Among theme parks zoo, aquariums, and water parks as well as museums were created for the amusement of others each with there own theme. Chapter 10 discusses about recreation, attractions, and clubs. The first few pages talk about recreation. The word recreation is defined as the use of time for therapeutic refreshment of one’s body or mind. Recreation allows people to have fun together creating bonds with one another. It is to form a lasting relationship and experiences they have enjoyed together. Government – Sponsored Recreation are intertwined, yet distinct, in the parks, recreation and leisure services. Commercial Recreation – attractions provides residents and visitors with access to an area’s spectacular wilderness through a variety of guided outdoor activities. Type of recreation are public parks, theme parks, and etc. Walt Disney World and its famous theme park is the Magic Kingdom. There are more than forty major shows and ride-through attractions with exclusive dining facilities. Epcot is another example of a recreation, it has a unique, permanent, and ever-changing world’s fair with 2 major themes: Future World and World Showcase. The chapters continues on about other famous attractions out there, like Hershey’s, Dollywood, LegoLand, Gatorland, Wet n’ Wild, and so much more.

  9. Chapter 10 goes in depth about the recreation, attractions, and clubs in the hospitality industry. It briefly describes government-sponsored recreation and how the monies are distributed among the various recreation- and leisure-related organizations at the federal, state/provincial, city, and town levels. It tells us about the National Park services all over the United States, it gives us brief details of how much land national parks have accrued, and gives us an estimate of how many people visit them year round. Park recreation and park agencies has been established since 1892 in Boston, Massachusetts and by the early 1900s, fourteen cities had made provisions for supervised play facilities, and the playground movement gained momentum. It also talks about the one thing that I love, theme parks and how popular they have been since the first sight of one in the 1920s with Knotts’s Berry Farms. It describes the various shapes and sizes of theme parks, and it also talks about Walt Disney, who has created an empire with his theme parks domestically and internationally, as well as providing hotels, restaurants and even cruise ships. Of course Mr. Disney has passed away for a couple of decades now, but it is interesting how his legacy lives long and strong even after his death. Animal attractions is also described in the chapter, as it is exciting seeing various exotic animals and creatures form around the world. Chapter 10 also gives a list of the historic places and sites that I would eventually see in the very near future. Described as the seven wonders of the ancient world:
the Great Pyramid of Giza (Egypt)
the Hanging Gardens of Babylon (Iraq)
the Statue of Zeus at Olympia (Greece)
the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus (Turkey)
    the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus (Turkey)
    the Colossus of Rhodes (Greece)
and the Lighthouse of Alexandria (Egypt)
Museums also provide a distinct variety to us. There are many types of museums, including general, art, science and technology, natural history, history, and military. The Museum was founded in 1893 as a place to house biological and anthropological collections for a world exposition. Performance arts has drastically dropped, but it is very entertaining. It is one of the most ancient and beloved aspect of entertainment. Everyone will always have a place they would want to go to. Destinations are major attractions:
Athens, the capital city of Greece, is one of the world’s oldest cities
London was once the center of an empire that included approximately one quarter of the globe
Paris is a city of beautiful buildings, boulevards, parks, markets, and restaurants and cafés
They say, “All roads lead to Rome.” Rome, the Eternal City, also called the “Cradle of Civilization.”
Chapter 10 also describes to us about the club industry. It details club management structure that most clubs around the world use.

Recreation distinct at Government-sponsored recreation, National park, Public Recreation, and Commercial Recreation. The Commercial Recreation provides resident for tourists when they are doing activities out of home. Theme parks and attractions change according to theme, which might be historical, cultural, geographical, and so on. There are a lot of theme parks in the United States. And the most popular and famous theme park is the Walt Disney Since its opening in 1971. More and more, the attraction for visit have animal, aquarium, historic places, museums, and performance arts. There are various types of clubs in our country.

  14. Dreagut1101 says:

Chapter 10 was about the many types of recreations and clubs that exist. I never really thought of zoo’s and clubs as part of hospitality. You see posters on the train about trade schools where they teach you Nursing, dentistry, business, engineering and hospitality management, but it never really emphasizes what any of those subjects are and what kind of careers they can lead to. I guess Disney fell into hospitality because of his imagination and mostly because of the money he made off of his cartoon and movies. Now there are many theme parks out there and Disney World is one of its pioneers. I should not just associate theme parks with Disney World and Six flags full of fun rides, but also with water parks and historically themed parks. National Parks are places for recreation away from work, away from chaos to just be alone amongst nature. Some people enjoy that and there are jobs in maintain peace, safety and Eco-friendly standards in that line of work. There was also talks of clubs, at first I thought like a night club, which is more of a restaurant, and totally forgot about real club exclusive places that people can afford. If you have the money you can have full membership to a club and reap all the benefits of having that. We are talking about Golf clubs, sports clubs, cigar clubs, fraternal clubs, alumni clubs etc. Then the chapter breaks it down how they are run. I found this part interesting because unlike the hotels and restaurants that we have been learning about, these clubs have significant power because it knows it’s history and tries to maintain those values and standards that were created for the sole purpose of having a way to be amongst those that share the same interests, connections or values. Then it comes down to the finances, the managers and the trickles to individual sections such as food, facilities, etc. This chapter was very enlightening.

  15. Diana Zaro says:

Chapter 10 was very interesting and informative about the areas of Recreation, Attraction, and Clubs. The definition of Recreation means people are spending time to relax on entertainment. Also, it makes people to have fun together and form lasting relationships built on the experience they have enjoyed together. Another fact that chapter 10 tells us is about the taxes among this places like for example transient occupancy taxes. Now something new that I learned was Leisure which is a time free from work. Recreation distinct at Government-sponsored recreation, National park, Public Recreation, and Commercial Recreation. The Commercial Recreation provides resident and tourists provides the activities that are outside of home. Museums are very important area of attractions for tourist. Theme parks and attractions change according to theme, which might be historical, cultural, or geographical. There are a lot of theme parks in the United States. And the most popular and famous theme park is the Walt Disney that was built on 1971. The attraction for visiting like for families have animal, aquarium, historic places, museums, and performance arts. To finalize, the Clubs are to be consider like the second home and very similar to the hotel management.

  16. Adnan Ahmed says:
