  1. Chapter 14 describes leadership and management. The key traits of leadership can create the best leaders. Courage, decisiveness, dependability, endurance, enthusiasm, initiative, integrity, judgment, justice, knowledge, loyalty, tact, unselfishness are all leadership traits. Leaders can and do make a difference when measuring a company’s success. few groups can accomplish much without an individual who acts as an effective leader. The leader can and often does have a significant influence on the group and its direction. The challenges that come with leadership make us stronger. Challenge the process, inspire a shared vision, enable others to act, model the way, encourage the heart. The chapter describes the various types of leadership such as transactional leadership, and transformational leadership. It also shows us approaches to become a hotel leader: Be decisive, follow through, select the best, empower employees, enhance career development. The chapter then describes how Hospitality Management takes the leadership role and infuses it within the field. Managers plan, organize, make decisions, communicate, motivate, control the efforts of a group to accomplish predetermined goals, and establish direction. Management is defined as “the process of working with and through others to accomplish organizational goals in an efficient and effective way”. The chapter defines what management is and how effective it can be in the workplace. Key management functions include planning, organizing, decision making, communication, human resources and motivating, controlling. The chapter also tells us about certain managerial skills needed to be successful.
