Chapter 12 & 13 were about event planning, meetings, expositions and conventions. This chapter I found a tad boring but still very informative. It really helped me differentiate the types of events and meetings there are. Like Seminars and Symposiums are different. I used to think they were the same thing. In 1105 we did talk a little about this and the categories of groups that hold events and conventions. We memorized SMERF, Social, Military, Education, Religious and Fraternal.
Event Planning was more focused because of the responsibilities event planners/managers have. They need to meet expectations, deal with unplanned circumstances, and make makes it harder is that it involves legally binding contracts. An event planner or a DMC Destination Management Company have to have good timing, management, and communication skills that can juggle many things together. They can get sponsorship too as long as they promote their sponsor’s products. It was all very intimidating to me.
