I have graduated high school. My academic goal is to earn a baccalaureate degree after 4 years, after learning all the foundations, skills, and knowledge of hospitality management necessary to give an outstanding performance in my future career. I have experienced working a food catering company as a server and as the assistant chef. My career goal is to work as a chef in a hotel restaurant and work my way up to become an executive chef. My friends and family would describe as an amiable and generous person. I try to help the people around me with the best of my abilities. I am also a very organized and punctual person, which I consider is necessary in order to excel in any profession of work. My personal interests or hobbies include: singing, listening to music, reading, cooking, and exploring to discover different kinds of food. Reading helps me expand my vocabulary, while listening to music helps me concentrate and focus on the details very intensely. Singing is a great release of stress, and cooking for my friends and family help me practice my culinary skills.

Many people have been asked once or twice in their life to describe themselves in a few word or in an essay. Frankly it is difficult for someone to talk about themselves because it may feel like youā€™re bragging about yourself. Some people may be comfortable with that but others may not. I have been asked to describe myself and all of my academic accomplishments throughout my life, basically what makes me who I am. It hasnā€™t been long since i graduated from high school, approximately a year. I graduated from a civil engineering and technology high school. We were taught about engineering, architecture, coding and all kinds of technology throughout our entire high school years. When i started college, i wanted to go straight into a technical major because i believed that it was what i wanted to do, but as some time went by i realised that it wasnā€™t my dream to be an engineer or an architect, i had a huge passion for anything that had to do with the kitchen. So i talked to my advisor about it and took a personality test, which told me that i had the personality of a helper. Right away i knew that it was true and that i shouldnā€™t waste my time on something that i didnā€™t enjoy and i should change into a major that commemorates my personality, so i changed into the major of Hospitality Management. Some of the goals that i have for my future are to graduate college with a good academic standard and an associates degree in Hospitality Management. After graduation i hope to find a good job in my field of work and hopefully be able to continue for my bachelorā€™s degree. Honestly, i do not have much experience in the hospitality field. The only experience i have is getting to learn how cook on my own at home. But although i donā€™t have much experience i would love to continue learning more about my major and in the future i would really like to work for a chain of restaurants. Some of my personal strength would have to be that i am a very good listener and also i am a very fast learner which can be very important for any kind of job that i get. I believe that some of the things that make me who i am would have to be my passions, which are, music, cooking, learning new things to make, and helping anyone that i can. This is what i believe makes me who i am and hopefully really comes in handy for the future.

The majority of my academic experience was done on the island of Trinidad and Tobago. I attended school from the age of four until Senior Secondary education. Education wasnā€™t a big factor growing up back then and my parents never really encouraged me to pursue a higher education.

After leaving school I became a Correction Officer for the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service. It was a job that I really never liked but stay with it due to my parents. I felt that I needed to expand my horizon and I needed to leave Trinidad. I wasnā€™t married but was blessed with a son.
I relocated to the United States with my brother in the nineties.

I had to leave my son behind with his mother. When I got to the USA, I started working different jobs to make ends meet, also send home money for my son. My dream in America was to achieve a college degree, but there was numerous obstacle along the way that deterred that goal.

When I finally became a US Resident, I got my son here and he immediately attended New York City College of Technology. He then went on to Georgia Tech and graduated with his masterā€™s degree, and Is now an Engineer with Intel.

Seeing my son accomplished his dreams gave me the desire to attempt a shot at completing a getting a college degree. My son was very instrumental in pushing me towards that goal. He knew that was my dreams and he insisted that I pursue what I love.

I have a love for cooking since a very young age. I figured I have a basic knowledge of cooking but just needed the culinary science behind food. So by pursuing the Hospitality Management degree, I hope to become an Executive Chef one day. I have dreams of opening my own restaurant in Trinidad in a couple of years after gaining some experience.

What are goals? Something that we all hope to achieve one day, but the question is are we all willing to put in the work to accomplish them. It’s not easy but if you really want it you do what you got to do. I have a few academic experiences that led up to my academic goals. Some academic goals consist of completing all assignments, excelling on exams and not just finishing the task but learning from it.
These academic goals will help me achieve my career goal as a hotel manager. Last summer i had a great career experience, which was volunteering at Maimonides hospital. It thought me many things and gave me the ability to network with new people.
Like most people you’re great at some things and your not so great at other things. I have many personal strengths such as being organized, trustworthy, dependable, works under pressure, teamwork, and most importantly I get things done no matter what. Some personal interest that enhances my personal attribute is my obsession for baseball and basketball. When am playing, it gets my mind off things and helps me focus on the main goal, which is to win and always improve. I’ll continue to use those skills in the future which shows me to never settle for less and don’t stop going until you reach where you want to be.

Growing up as an immigrant, my academic experience has been very tough in the past. I was brought to the US at the age of 9. It was tough sitting in a class filled with students and a teacher who spoke nothing but English. However, I started to learn English gradually and finally spoke great English. From there on, I excelled in school because I was eager to achieve goals that I set for myself. I have many academic goals that I have yet to achieve for college such as keeping a GPA higher than 3.8, following all the class instructions given by the professors, and respecting my classmates.
I am currently part of the hospitality management program. I have many career goals that I want to be able to achieve after graduating from this college. I decided to go in hospitality management because I want to work in a hotel as a general manager. Although it will take a long time, my job is to work as hard as I can to achieve that position so I can move on to accomplish more goals.
I have many strengths that makes me unique from others. Most of my strengths are the reason I chose to decide my major. I am patient, responsible, trustworthy, confident, determined, motivated, intelligent, focused, and disciplined. This mixture of strengths has helped me be who I am today and will continue to do so.
My communication skills and ability/willingness to learn can boost my odds for getting a great job in the hospitality industry.

Hospitality management has been a goal of mine for around 3 years. The idea of meeting people from all walks of life has intrigued me, since it has been a dream of mine to travel the world. I believe that goal can be attained through the hospitality industry. my academic goals would be to graduate in hospitality management with a bachelorā€™s degree, and learn multiple languages. My academic experience has consisted of mostly general requirements because my major before this was liberal arts, this semester would be the first that Iā€™m getting into some hospitality management courses.
My career experience for the hospitality industry has been limited as I started around 3 years ago. I have been a loss prevention officer and a bellman/doorman, but has varied as I have been a file clerk, personal assistant and dog walker. My career goals would be to eventually move up in hotels to be a front desk manager or general manager and possibly opening my own hotel one day.
Iā€™ve been told that my personal strengths are calm, trustworthy, honest, hardworking, ambitious kind and somewhat thoughtful.
My personal interests include football, visiting museums, exploring the city, and trying new foods. I think that enhances my professional attributes in many ways because it shows Iā€™m a team player, and that Iā€™m interested in learning and trying out new things.

I am fresh out of high school I graduated this last June 26 2017. Worked hard those last four years to be able to make it where I am now which is in college. In college my goal is to get my bachelor degree which require four more years of school. I want to finish strong and be able to be proud of myself.

The only career experience that I have is now which I work in a law firm doing administration duties which is answering phone calls and entering files all day. A career goal for me is to become a flight attendant. I would like to get out of my comfort zone and be more out there in the world and see more then what I have already seen. That is my short term goal, my long term goal is to become a hotel manager once I get a little older. Both of these jobs have one thing in common which is that they both help people and service them which is what I like. I want to grow as a person throughout my future careers and see where it takes me.

As a person I am very outspoken I will say what is on my mind all the time and be truthful about how I feel. I am also a very friendly person I love to communicate with other people and build people’s trust while I talk to them. Being friendly is important because people like to see that you are nice and you are not being mean or a robot. You have to be friendly so that people feel good after they talk to you and you have to do that in this business. I am also very organized I don’t like a mess. I like things to be well structured and makes sure it comes out flawlessly. Things flow nicely when a person is organized.

What made me interested that enhanced my professional attributes is to be able communicate with all types of people, to meet different types of people. Also to travel to see what else it out there and expand myself to be more out there.

  19. Yanina says:

How often in our lives weā€™ve been asked who we want to be when we grow up ? I could never answer this question. All my life ,from childhood I had so many points of interest and that surely continued into my youth and beyond. I studied art and music in my teenage years, always was drawn to creative self expression and after finishing high school decided to pursue a career of a graphic designer. I worked in a film industry for couple of years after college as a freelancer and I liked the freedom and mobility that this job was giving me. I could travel to many places in the world , explore different cultures, foods, architecture, people and see my life in New York in a perspective.
It wasnā€™t long enough after my first degree when traveling through third world countries I realized how many people living in poverty and donā€™t have a proper health care. It is back then , I was drawn to the idea of natural healing . This and few other circumstances led me to pursuing a new career in Oriental Medicine which took me another 4 years of studying. I never stopped travelling , never stopped learning languages and explore the world.
I finished my studies in 2011 and practice oriental medicine ever since. Couple years ago , me and my friend who is a travel agent, started having ideas about a hotel business. Also , travelling and tourism was always my passion and I would love my job to include more travelling. All these were a logical and clear signs for me to start this program of hospitality which I hope will give me a more in depth outlook on this industry.
As far as my academic experience and goals, I ā€˜ve been always choosing my career myself and never been forced to study, thus I was interested in learning more and was always a good student.
I think my experience as a traveller of more than 50 countries on a different comfort level , (from a tent to a 5 star hotel ), is giving me a huge strength in knowing the diversity of hospitality business and what is missing and what is the demand etc. Nevertheless I realize that I lack a professional detailed view on this subject . That what I hope to gain with this degree.
