    Perspective in Hospitality and Management

So far my academic experience hasn’t been the best one yet. Last semester I really fell off because I had a high school mentality. This semester I strive for greatness and excellent grades. I want to get my Bachelors in Hospitality Management and later on further my career. I have experience in retail, and as of right now I am working as a receptionist in a club downtown. My career goal is to be a general manager at a hotel and also own a business. I have good communication skills, I love talking to people and learning about them. I speak two languages fluently so that gives me a little advantage. I am team-oriented, and I am not afraid to express my opinion. I believe I have good customer service because I engage with the customer, but like everyone I would like to get more experience.

After I graduate from City Tech in two years, I plan to work front of the house in hotels or restaurant. I also plan to get my bachelor’s degree. After the two years at City Tech, I plan to enroll in Pace University and hope to continue studying hospitality management or communication. In the future, I plan to be a receptionist at a hotel. Some of the personal strengths that I have are communication skills and organizational skills. If you see me around campus, don’t be afraid to approach me because I am willing to make new friends. Some of the personal interests that would help me succeed in my future job is that I am a people person and friendly. Some facts that you might not know is that I am a former Girl Scouts. I joined Girl Scouts when I was in sixth grade in middle school and since then I continue to join them.

I started my culinary career when I was in high school, where I studied cooking. After graduation, I received a Japanese cooking license and a license to prepare the poisonous Japanese Fugu (Pufferfish) in Ehime Prefecture, Japan. After 10 years of pursuing my career in the restaurant industry, I decided to enroll in community college to obtain my Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. I completed my degree from BMCC in 2016, and I began attending City Tech from fall semester 2017, in order to purse my Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management. My goal at City Tech, beyond pursing my degree, is to understand hospitality management in the United States and to use that knowledge in the future.
My father owns a small restaurant in my hometown in Japan. When I was in high school, I often helped at his restaurant. These are the roots of my career in the restaurant industry. After I graduated from high school, I worked in kitchen of two restaurants, one in my hometown of Matsuyama, and the other in Kanagawa Prefecture. Since moving to New York around ten years ago, I have consistently worked Front-of-House in numerous restaurants. In the future, I would like to open my restaurant in both NYC and Japan.
My personal strengths are that I am a team player and a fast learner. In the restaurant industry, teamwork is crucial to maintaining smooth operations. During work I keep a close eye on my team, and do my best to take note of which sections are busy and need help. Systems and menus both change regularly at restaurants, so I also do my best to pick up these systems and menus and effectively teach them to my colleagues.
In my personal time, I really enjoy dining out at many different kinds of restaurants. When I go to a restaurant, I tend to check take note of its atmosphere, the service and the quality of the food. This helps me to discover new things that I can keep in mind for the future, when I run my own establishment.

  5. Bryan Caba says:

Hello, I’m Bryan and my academic experience throughout my four years in high school have been the best because not once have I failed a class. In other words, I was honor student with a 3.5 GPA . My academic goals as a freshman in City Tech are to enhanced my cooking abilities and to pass my final exams. Within’ my last two years of high school I was an intern for two separate programs known as PERC and CHCF. Both PERC and CHCF has helped me learn how to somewhat facilitate a certain groups of students , since my jobs were to provide students the extra help they needed. My career goals after college is to have my own restaurant and franchise it.
My personal strengths in the sense of everything that involves food are my ability to explicitly critique the food that I’m tasting with reasonable statements that explains why a certain dish should or should not be served at a restaurant. I also have this understanding on food that’s important in other cultures. Through out my academic experiences I learned that I’m better in English and history than math. I’m interested in Japanese food culture that involves sushi and how it prepared as well as Kobe beef and sukiyaki beef . Dishes like that fascinates me. I’m also interested in Hawaii foods culture because they have interested dishes as well that involves their famous poke and various spam dishes.

  8. Marriott International is one of the largest hotel business chains in the world. Now called as a conglomerate, they hold 30 different hotel brands that are very diverse, and each brand represents Marriott in its own unique way. With Marriott focusing more on the diversity of brands, it demonstrates a positive look on the global market. Marriott did not start as a hotel chain right off the bat. Founders J. Williard Marriott and his wife Alice, first started a root beer shop; They soon started their own root beer franchise known as A&W. Adding hot food items on their menu, they created Hot Shoppes, which included the first drive-in restaurant in the east coast. They also created business with catering in-flight meals to airlines, making them pioneers of airline food catering. Under J. Williard Marriott’s son, bill, Marriott shifted to the hotel and lodging business; and over 25 years, Marriott became a diverse global enterprise. At first, I was attracted to Marriott solely because of the name itself. The brand in itself is very powerful, and it shows the pride that the company has. However, not only because of the brand, but the good service that the company gives not only to the consumers, but to their employees, shows that they treat every individual with respect. The president and CEO of Marriott states, “In a business like ours, where the hospitality we provide is essential, we simply cannot succeed unless our people love their work.” Marriott is a company that creates their own legacy not only on their past success, but with new innovations that meet the demands that people ask for. Working for them in the future will help me further understand what diversity, uniqueness, and sustainability mean. With Marriott, I am guaranteed an enjoyable career in life.
