Natural and man made disasters are some times very hard to predict so preparation comes in handy. The steps and outlined procedures that Barbra Higgins in “The Storms of Summer,” were very simple precise but they very critical to keep in mind. We should keep the guest safe and the cast members also. Nothing is more important the safety. Everyday a work they mention “saftey begins with me,” because if it were not for us, the cast members, there would be no magic. With 63000 cast members, that is very important to keep everyone safe and that everyone is safe.
In Disney World we have a lot planned in case of emergency due to storms or even a scrapped knee. In Downtown Disney we do not call it the ambulance, we call it our medical team just to make the situation not as severe as guest would make it. When it comes to natural disasters, we have plan A, B, C, ranging from just closing establishment to getting guest out of harms way. In case of a storm and the guest does have to evacuate, we even have the character go back to the hotels and ensure the magic is still intact and that parents as well as the kids are not worried or scared.
In the future, these skills will really come in handy in managerial positions. Preparations for situation that can not be predicted is going to come in use. You never know what is going to happen but only time and prep will help you .
They take saftey so seriously here at Disney, that i just found out from a co-worker that airplanes are not allowed to fly over Disney World. i found that very interesting, what even more interesting is that the planes aren’t even allowed to fly over any Disney Cruise boat as well when its out at sea. So disney doesn’t mess around when it comes to saftey.
