Journal #4

As my training continued, I kinda began to hate the entire training process. The fact that you have to train a whole day at one position is tiring, boring, and pointless. It is not realistic at all and compared to a normal day of working where you get rotated, training is 8 hours of one position. My first training day was Soup Salad Sandwich station and my trainer was Shayla, she was definitely awesome and had the right mentality. She didn’t over work me or mistreat me, she showed me the ropes, and told me about the job and how to get it done the right way. That was my best training day because my trainer obviously liked her job and enjoyed working. Compared to the other trainers, she was a saint. The other trainers didn’t practice what they preached and were constantly eating backstage. It was pretty disheartening because even I knew the rules and they were constantly breaking them. The long days and hours got long, with training ending at 1am I was getting home around 2am because of the sketchy bus service. Luckily other CP’s were on the same boat but had their cars from home. Often enough, I got a ride back to Vista in pretty decent time.

I was almost done with training but I had to fly back home to a per-arranged family event that I was approved for prior to my arrival at Disney. It was annoying to put a halt on the final steps of training, but it was definitely good to see my family and attend my brother’s wedding.

While I was in New York, I woke up to news that my grandfather had died. I was broken, I didn’t know what to do, I had a flight later that afternoon back to Orlando but my grandfather’s funeral was in Puerto Rico. I was distressed so I emailed my manager for help. She assisted me with the issue and approved days off immediately. I arrived in Orlando, trained for one more day, and then next morning I was on a flight to Puerto Rico.

The week had been exhausting to say the least, but I tried my hardest to manage everything and did pretty well in the end.

    Dear Matthew,

I am sorry to hear about your grandfather’s passing. It is very inspiring to hear that you continued on with your training and are still here after such an unfortunate event. I have heard of many people self-terming for various reasons and I am sure it was not easy having so many things occur in one week. It is interesting to learn about your various trainers and how so many of them do not practice the methods they train you on. I am sure this can put anyone in a conflicting situation and at odds with who they should follow. Kudos to you for sticking to your guns and continuing to work with integrity regardless of what others are doing!
