My second week of the program was very exciting because I scheduled to begin on the job training. I went through two orientation classes, which were operations orientation and lodging orientation. They both consisted of information that is relevant to the Disney Company and my position as a housekeeper. My lodging class gave us hands on experience on what was expected of us and what we would be required to do. We learned how to make beds with hospital corners and clean bathrooms in compliance with company standards. Followed by these two orientations I had “Saludos Amigos”, which was the property orientation at Coronado Springs. There were CP’s and full time cast members. The orientation was fun and interactive. We began by dancing around the room and running out into an open area to take a group photo. Then we were put into teams to have a scavenger hunt on a map to familiarize ourselves with the property. Then, the pargo’s took us on a tour of the premises and we were able to walk through back areas of Coronado Springs. The last part of Saludos Amigos was being fitted for costumes. My trainer was very helpful in explaining every step, going into details, demonstrating things over and over to ensure that I understood what needed to be done. She also answered any questions I had and made me feel comfortable especially when it was time for me to be on my own. The layout of the buildings I was in was very confusing and many guests asked me for directions my first week there so I kept a map on me at all times.
I was also able to go to Hollywood Studios for the first time in my life. It was a lot smaller than what I expected and not very crowded so there was little wait time for the rides. Tower of Terror and Rock ‘n’ Roller coaster are my favorite rides there.
Toy Story was a 90-minute wait so I did not get to experience this attraction. When we got to the New York showcase I was super excited. I was starting to feel a little home sick and this made me feel so much better. The details were so exact and I felt right at home. The Beauty and the Beast show amazed me at how the transformation and costume changes occurred right on stage.
How exciting! my favorite rides are also tower terror and rock and roll roller coaster. Piece of advice, the best time to get on all the rides is when the fireworks are going on, This is for all parks, you’ll get on 3 to 4 rides in a hour. Best of luck on your role!
