From reading Barbara Higgins article The Storms of Summer, I definitely agree that all safety precautions including natural disasters must be taken seriously. However, working as a housekeeper at Pop Century Resort, the Walt Disney Company hasn’t discussed any hurricane evacuation plans to me. The only safety precautions I was taught was dialing emergency phone numbers when a guest is hurt or if pipes are broken and if an unusual situation occurs; and also dialing 911.
It seems like most of the hurricane evacuation plans were mainly taught towards the front of the house members, while people working in the back weren’t taught any natural disaster emergency plan. The Walt Disney Company is a well respected company, however not all companies are perfect. I feel that if Disney made the effort to discuss natural disasters emergency plans towards the front of the house members, the back of the house people should be taught the same way.
