ASCE MET COPRI Technical Lecture – The Battery Coastal Resilience

https://www.eventbrite.com/e/copri-technical-lecture-the-battery-coastal-resilience-tickets-808959378277

The Battery Coastal Resilience project, which lies at the southern tip of Manhattan, is part of a series of projects that make the Lower Manhattan Coastal Resilience (LMCR) initiative and includes both climate mitigation and climate adaption practices. The project is reconstructing the existing aging and failing wharf originally constructed in the 1940’s with a new elevated wharf that provides upland park protection from the 90th percentile sea level rise scenario in year 2100 as defined by the New York City Panel on Climate Change (NPCC). Accounting for over 6 ft of sea level rise required extensive coordination with the National Park Service (NPS) vessel operators who currently ferry approximately four million tourists per year to the Statue of Liberty from The Battery.

Domenic D’Argenzio, a Senior Associate at Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers, and Greg Sprich, a Principal at Stantec, will discuss the design challenges and how present day operability needs are being met while planning for future climate change conditions and all the while maintaining universal design principles.
