Untitled1 Untitled2

While Americans are getting ready to start their weekend, Nepal was hit with 7.8-magnitude earthquake on Saturday, April 25, 2015. According to CIA World Factbook, severe thunderstorms, flooding and landslides are common natural hazards in Nepal. However, the Saturday’s earthquake was their worst in 81 years. As of April 25, 2014, death toll of this tragedy reached 1,910. As the rescue mission progresses, death toll is expected to reach a new height.

A Day after the incident, a South-Asian community living in Jackson Heights, Queens, NY, gathered in remembrance of those effected by the earthquake. People of this community showed their condolences to the people who lost their lives in Nepal’s earthquake by staying awake all night, praying. People of all ages and ethnicity were seen to participate in this vigil. A community organization (name unknown) took over a small street in Jackson Heights (upon permission of the City of New York) and lit candle on the streets to send their prayers.
