Last week Thursday I continued to work on my non-profit organization mobile app for Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. As I was setting up my tabs, mapping out which information from the site will go under which tab, my supervisor Mr. Lawson  came over to my computer and looked over the site again to make sure it was suitable for a mobile app. After looking through the site Mr. Lawson concluded that I shouldn’t use this site, and then we sat down and searched for a new non-profit organization that I can create this mobile app for.

After a few minutes we found a great non-profit organization site called Stomp Out Bullying,  which is a site that talks about bullying,  the reason why kids bully other kids, and how to get help, and how to report it to teachers and parents.  This site had the works on bullying right down to the different types and kinds of bullying.  This really stuck out for Mr. Lawson and I and he gave me the “Go” to start working on the mobile app.

Thursday I started the research on this site, read their mission statement,  and history.  I clicked on every tab and within every tab are links to information to get help to stop bullies from bullying, and the break down on different types of bullying, example gay bullying. Now that all the content are in the specific tabs that I havr created, all I have to do now is add their images and logo from their website to the mobile app and published it in the android market and iTunes.

Monday was my first day of work at New York App Designers. The company has different locations and the I reported to the Brooklyn location on Nostrand Ave in the Restoration building in the  College of New Rochelle. The first day was introduction to my fellow interns who also happened to be in BTTIP. This is also the day I meet my supervisor Mr. Khalidi Lawson for the first time in person,  he showed us a power point presentation of what the company does and what our roles are going to be as the designers.

Tuesday was my first day of research on finding a non-profit organization, and look through their website and see if there was any way to create a mobile app to help get their information out. I choose to create an app for Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce,  which is a site that gives information about Brooklyn. Where to go, what to see, what to eat, and  events and news about the borough of Brooklyn.

After I choose the non-profit organization I carefully clicked through the site to see if I will be able to incorporate the information in to an app. As I was clicking each link I was thinking “If I wanted to more about Brooklyn what information would I like to read in an app?”. The truth is I’m still working on deciding which is more efficient on a mobile app.  Should I choose quality over quantity? .

I decided to leave that content for later and work on the appearance of the app. I used their pictures that was on their website, so now all I have to do is drip it in Adobe PhotoShop and resize and maybe add a filter.  I have to try to fix the pixelation and try not to make it looks so stretched out. I ran out of time yesterday at my internship, I left off with images needed to be fixed, buttons (taps) are set, and that’s it. I’m so excited I feel like I’m a super hero and my powers are designing and excitement.

Last week I did not have my internship because I haven’t started yet. Not exactly sure what to post on here. Only thing I’ve done last week is go to my current job as a cashier, and actually did lots of homework. I didn’t have this class last week, but I did have my Art of Asia class so I went to that class. After class I wanted to be prepared for my first day at my internship, I decided to buy some professional clothing so I can be dressed for success.

Monday February 9 at 2 pm I start my internship with New York App Designer in Brooklyn New York, the company designs and creates mobile websites and apps for small business. Well the first week is more of an orientation, getting to meet my supervisor in person for the first. I’ll be able to sit down with Mr. Khalidi Lawson getting to know more about him and also come up with a schedule that will work well with my current job and my classes. My position will be a designer and I may code using HTML 5. I am so excited to start working at my internship, also a little nervous. Even though I’m not 100% confident in my ability in graphic design however I know I have to start somewhere. I know I can do this and expand my horizons past web design and learn new skills abilities. What I want to get out of this internship is real word experience, advance my designing skills and have a fantastic portfolio and resume.

Beginning of  fall semester 2014 I decided I wanted to find an internship for spring 2015, however I didn’t know how or where to start looking. A classmate of mine told me to go to the COMD office and ask for help, and when I went to the office the administrative assistant told me to go downstairs to the placement office. I went to the placement office and one of the ladies who worked there helped me get started to finding an internship. She told me to sign up on the optimal resource website and create a resume. once I did that I had access to all the internship and job opportunities.

Within a week the placement office had emailed me at least five different internships, which was not paid internships nor were they in my major. Than I received an email about this program called Brooklyn Tech Triangle Internship Program (BTTIP), which I had to pass three phases before I was actually got accepted into the program. I passed all three phases and they helped me land a paid internship with New York App Designer, which builds mobile websites for small business. I don’t start my internship until February 9 but i’m so excited to see where this takes me and how far I can go in life after college.

Wednesday January 28 was the first day of my internship class. Professor Mason give the class a outline of how the internship class works, he told us that this class is more of the “Experimental” which means out in the field work, working with the companies. Experiencing the real world, not class world. I am so looking forward to working in “real” life.
