My internship company is New York Artwing. It’s a fashion photography agency, but they are now trying to make another company called Big production. I was curious then I asked supervisor that why you need to have another company. He explained to me but honestly I don’t understand exactly. Basically clients come to Artwing to take photo shoots. They need everything including photographer. However, some clients have their own photographer. They need just studio, models, makeup or props. Big production is for that people. That is why Artwing need another company.

The supervisor asked me logo design before I work on web design. He wants to look like old fashion typewriter style and logo should include “big, production and events” words.

Now I’m doing some sketches. Hopefully it comes out beautifully.

I want to talk about an article: Gross domestic Freebie by James Surowiecki.

First of all, I was surprised by the number of Twitter’s daily users and its revenue. Even thought Twitter doesn’t charge people to use its technology, it’s revenue is just five hundred ad thirty five million dollars. Also Twitter has more than two hundred and thirty million active users.

Second. I have been curious for long time about some companies that based on web and app. They offer their high technology for free but they keep growth. I don’t understand how they generate income and how they affect on G.D.P. According to the article, the value of information and data part of economy is underestimated. Digital innovation can even shrink G.D.P.

From the second-class meeting, I heard from Richard that New York Artwing agency is looking for web-design intern. Since I was having trouble finding internship position, I emailed agency to check if there is an available position. I received an email from them. They wanted to see me. I met a guy named Scott at coffee shop called bean and bean in Manhattan, because his office was being renovated. I showed him my resume and portfolio, and explained my works. After that, He told me that his company is fashion photography agency, but now trying to launch another production company called Big production. He needs a simple web site for that.

Interview was pretty short than I expected. He asked me to see some sample sites that he is going to send me, then let him know if I can do that. When I came to my home, I came up some questions that I should have asked such as where do I work or who work with me, and etc. I should ask by email or next meeting.

I took the Big Five Personality test to find more about me. It measures five major dimensions of human personality: openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion agreeableness and Neuroticism. The result is pretty much interesting. Everything is acceptable except Openness to experience/Intellect. I thought I’m pretty open-minded, but the score is very low. It means I’m somewhat conventional, narrow interests, and uncreative. I was surprise because I’m a designer. I’m the person who has to have creativeness. One more thing I want to mention is Extraversion. My score is less than 20%. It means probably I like spending quiet time alone. However I feel like I’m in the middle. Sometime I enjoy spending time with my friends and sometimes alone. I’m not sure if this test is reliable, but it is good to think about me.

From the first class I read an interesting article about getting a job. According to the article, a college degree doesn’t guarantee a job any more. More important thing is what you can do and what you can continuously reinvent yourself to do. This article made me think about what I have done and what I can do. Honestly I feel I’m not ready yet. Because technology are changing and merging so quickly with so many new tools, I need a variety of experiences to get a job. Another interesting point on the article is that many people have very poor writing skill even for college graduates. As an international student, I’m not confident of writing. I felt I have to improve my writing skill
