Documentation: For Dummies series

A good example of documentation, are the “For Dummies” books. This franchise offers books on just about any topic you can imagine. They take this topic and break it down step by step so that you can get the hang of it. I recently purchased a “Photo Retouching & Restoration For Dummies” because I would be doing a lot of work with Photoshop and other programs like it. Since I had no experience with these programs, the vocabulary used in class left me a bit confused so this book really helped with its explanations of what the key terms were and also the step by step of how to make a basic picture stand out. -Miguel Olivares

Citing and credibility- Miguel Olivares

The articles made some good points about citations. I believe that citations are more important to me now than ever before because it subconsciously validates what the author is saying in my mind. I think it establishes a sense of trust which allows you to take in the information without having second thoughts about what you are reading. The citing of sources also gives the reader more options to help answer any question that they have after reading the main article or paper. No need to scroll through Google results for ten minutes from you have work cited right there in front of you that you can refer to.

During the past few lectures, I have really discovered some new useful techniques on how to find adequate information on the web. I think the most helpful of them all was Google scholar. I hadn’t heard of it until we covered it in class and I kind of wish it hadn’t taken me so long to discover it. I also didn’t know that we could put in a request for a specific article at the school library if I can’t get access to it on my own. I’ve also become more selective when clicking on links or choosing an article to get information from. Things like the domain, author’s credentials and whether it’s something that has been updated or revised are some of the things that I now tend to look at more than I ever did before.

Homework 1

In chapter one William Badke have really help me to understand how powerful information and knowledge is. How knowledge and information can be a tradition to help keep the society and the generation alive. Information has generally spread throughout the world and becoming easier to access, people can go the internet and look up any information and that search engine will give you that specific type of information you want. Since the generation has change and the technology have become a big impact in people lives, we don’t need to ask people for information or looking up on books anymore we just go to the internet, and that’s the problem I have with that. It seems that the internet is our only solution, I mean we rely on the internet to much that  people believe what they see on the internet are true facts. While reading the first  chapter  has help me realize that information is changing throught out time, we need to dig deeper to our sources and find out if our information is reliable or not.
