Unit 3 Final Draft & Artist Statement

Artist’s Statement-

For the Unit 3: new audience assignment I created a video essay on climate change. I specifically chose to create a video essay because I believed it would be informational, educational, and that it would get straight to the point. My video essay took the main points of my Unit 2 article as well as ideas I came up with on how to connect my audience to my topic. The main purpose of my video essay was to communicate to my audience the importance of climate change, and how everyone can make a change to help the planet.

For the new audience I decided to choose activists. I believe the topic of climate change best reaches this audience because activists are already interested in change. In my video essay I made sure to aim the message to activists.

This process has gone without complications for me. I believe this is because I did thorough research on how to create video essays. The easy part of the process has been connecting my audience to my topic because activists already care about important topics like climate change. I hope through my video essay my audience learns of ways they can help with climate change through everyday actions, and how important and serious the topic of climate change is.

Artist Statement Final

Artist Statement

I am an artist and finished the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kiev. I left Ukraine in 2014 when there was a tense situation between Russia and some Ukrainian regions, As Crimea and Donbas. I have seen how children were traumatized and I still seeing how war has affected mentally and physically children from Ukraine.

I want to bring to attention everyone a picture above. Art is part of my life, and its being a huge platform, to show people all pain, in situations where words not enough to fully explain it.

My poster is designed to point out the suffering of Ukrainian population, especially the children. In this picture, kids are holding posters, asking for help. The protest rhetoric in this poster is more about preaching to the choir than it is about changing minds. And I’m glad, that today is possible to show everything through photo, pictures and art, without hiding anything.

Ukraine is not first but hopefully last country, who has to go through a war, through a war in 21 century. Russian terrorism is absolutely unacceptable, unforgivable and must being judged for every child and every civilian.

Fresco murals by French street artists Kelu Abstract and Jeff Aerosol are displayed on the wall of a Parisian building on March 14, 2022 in Paris, France.

A woman walks past a graffiti mural, showing a child protecting with a Ukrainian flag against the war, made by artist ChemiS, on March 19, 2022 in Prague.

Unit 3 Artist

The reason I chose to do a poem is because I wanted to do something short, fun and enjoyable to read. I believe you should go out and travel because you could find peace and happiness but I think this is easiest when you’re younger because you have less responsibility and less to worry about, so it is best to start traveling whenever you can. Understanding what I want to get across to the readers which are CityTech Freshman s, I decided to do a poem because I know that my audience doesn’t want to just be sitting there reading an essay of my experiences of traveling so I thought I would do something different. I really want the reader to have fun visualizing my experience or even google what I was experiencing because then I know I did a good job of inspiring younger kids.

While writing my poem I kept thinking of ways to make the readers visualize my experience of going to Switzerland. I didn’t simply just want to tell them that I went to Switzerland but instead make them close their eyes and get a sense of what I’m talking about. So I composed a poem where I used some metaphors to grab the reader’s attention, for example I used a Non Venomous metal snake to describe a railroad and the hissing of a snake to describe the braking of the railroad. I thought this would be cool and fun to add because it makes you think about what I’m saying but as you slowly read the poem you will tend to understand what I’m talking about. So describing my experience of going to Switzerland through a poem using metaphor and keeping it short and fun was the best way to inspire CityTech Freshmans to go out and experience the world in a way they haven’t yet.
