Some of the “ingredients” of education narrative that I tend to see a lot are the crisis of self-identity, self-placement, struggles individuals are facing not knowing the reason and why things happen. In both readings, “Maybe I Could Save Myself by Writing” by Jose Olivarez, a son of Mexican immigrants and the author of Citizen Illegal, and “Tardy” by Lynda Barry, a comedic illustrator, both face different personal struggles. One questioning his placement whether it’d be in the U.S or Mexico and the other being told that her reasoning for her tardiness was invalid. Both readings go into a deeper state of understanding.
A place for me to start my work as an education narrative would be my high school. I felt misplaced, so outcasted and I think it’s best for me to write from that perspective.
A few questions I had about writing my education narrative was, are narratives an educational one if it’s about others and how they’re impacted me for reacting a certain way?
