Third Shooting- Marielos Osorio

For my third and last shooting, my big idea was to show what the headphones do for you, rather then what they are. What I mean is to show how music brings people together and how the headphones help us in that process. On these shoots, the product is not the main focal point. These pictures focus on people interacting and using the product in a friendly and realistic way.

In these pictures, I used a white background with plenty of light. The feeling is of friendship and joy. The lighting really helped bring that idea to life. I do think some pictures came out very bright. Others a little dark, but in the end I got some nice shoots. On my opinion, the concept within the picture is there.

Second shooting-Marielos Osorio

On my second shooting, I personally faced many complications, especially with the lighting set-up. I moved the light around. I also increased and decreased the light, so that the glare was nice. Overall, the picture came out darker than expected, but the mystery feeling I was looking for is there. I experimented with some angels as well, positions and some color (Blue).

For this shooting I was going for a mysterious felling. The light did reflect that mysterious looking that I was aiming for. To set-up the right amount of light, on my opinion, was the hardest part. Additionally, on my first shooting I had a model. On this second one, I didn’t. Moreover, because the product was by itself, I added sunglasses to recreate a face looking feeling. Both, the glasses and the headphones created a human face without having to have an actual person there. The shoots also reflect a luxurious feeling, which I was looking for as well. Overall, the composition was good but the lighting could have been better.

What worked from today’s shooting was the lighting. I like the drama it brings to my headphones campaign idea, which is how important music is for us as to the way we get it; in this case, headphones. What it did not work was the angels because they don’t help towards the concept which is how happy music and listening to it. What I will do differently is to show the product more and it’s features. Maybe I will only have the headphones on the shoot. I will also have more emotions put into the next set of pictures.

Trip Description, Final Project Description & Career Goal Marielos Osorio

The Chinese Photobook at Aperture

The first gallery we visited explored photographs from China. The style implemented on these pictures was unique. The books displayed in the gallery showed a collision of images. What I mean is that on one page one could fine a variety of images put together in an orderly fashion. On these pages, illustrations could be found. On my opinion, the combination between a collection of images and illustrations create this visually appealing look because the page’s layout looks symmetrical. Moreover, we had pictures form Mao Tse-Tung, who was the leader of China during the Korean War. What I found very interesting about these pictures was that all of them were taken from a low angle, which made the leader look more powerful and confident. Moving on to other pictures, I found more modern, pictures that I found intriguing. These pictures had nude people on them. I believe these pictures are at some level, the reflection of our evolved society. They show how much things have change over the last few years.

Jimmy Nelson’s

The second gallery offered us a different culture on its photographs. Its focus was on people from Africa. There was one beautiful picture that captivated my eyes. It had three women depicted on it. All of them are giving their backs to the camera. But the main focus on the picture is their red hairs. Also, more colors can be found in the picture like yellow and white. The images in general reflect the beauty of nature and its power, and how insignificant humans are compared to it. The pictures also included Native people with their customs. On these pictures, both, man and nature are convened to create a valance photograph.

The Public Eye at the NYPL

Our last visit included a Library full of amazing photographs. A big majority of pictures were black and white. The first image that captivated my attention was a picture from the Grand Canyon. This picture was taken at the bottom of the canyon, next to the river. From there, the magnificent canyon reviles its beauty and power. The picture also reviles the hand of man by showing a railroad next to the river. Again we see the combination of man and nature, as we have in previous galleries. Additionally, I found another collection of picture, this time; they had Native American on them. I was surprise to uncover that these picture were controversial. It appears that some people felt insulted by them. Some critics said the photographer had insulted the Native American culture. I personally found them very appealing especially because they capture the nature essence of the Native American people. For example, one picture had a Native America woman making diner, which it shows a piece of what their culture is about. Another example was a man on a horse. This shows another adaptation that Native people had to acquired in order to survive. I personally could not find anything insulting on these picture, but it’s clear they are one person’s opinion.

Final Project Goal

For my final project, my goal is to capture human’s deepest and most hidden emotions. By human emotions I mean mystery, shadiness, secrets and loneliness. I will use lighting to reflect what I need. Furthermore, my human subject will reflect these emotions in front of the camera. My setup will be fairly dark and mysterious. I plan to use dark colors to help me bring those emotions to life.

 My plan when I graduate

After graduation, I plan to work for an Advertising Company. I do not a favorite one yet. I plan to use the skills that I have learned on this class to have a better understanding of how photography works and what to expect from a professional photographers. Moreover, I want to produce my own material, in this case, picture to implement them on my future campaigns.

RR5-Marielos Osorio

Today’s reading explored two ideas. These poems shared the idea of driving, but in different perspectives. The first poem “she being Brand” talks about the first time a man experienced sex. But the written uses a metaphor to express this idea. Evidence can be found in this direct quote from the poem, “the internalexpanding & externalcontraction.” Clearly refers to a sexual encounter and how great it feels.

The other poem called “coming Home, Detroit,1968 ” talks about the impact of factories in a city. It also refers to the segregation between people at that time. We can find evidence of this when the author wrote, “Rags, papers, hands, the stems of birches dirtied with words.” The writer emphasized the negative impact that a factory has on a city. “the charred faces,” clearly referring to African America people.

Clearly, these two poems have similarities. For example, in both people we have a male driver. Both poems talked about cars. The differences between these poems are the emotion the reader gets when he or she reads it. “she being Brand” its more erotic and energetic poem compare to “coming Home, Detroit,1968 ” which is more serious and sad. The way the poems are display it’s different. One is wild and the other one is solid, respectably.

RRE 4 In Plato’s Claves Marielos Osorio

In our times, taking pictures has become so accessible. This is why the meaning of photography is now hard to achieve and its lost. We live in a time that has been set up by the lenses of other photographers and this gives us the fails sense of knowledge. We think we know our world when it’s is the opposite. We truly know it through others people’s cameras, not through our own. We need to start creating our own perspective and stop being ignorant about what is out there.

Marielos Osorio-The style of Dutch 17th and 18th Century sill life painting

The style of Dutch 17th and 18th Century sill life painting has many components. What I can observe are the complementary colors. The paintings have colors like green and red or blue and orange. These combinations make the painting look balance and simple. The amount of detail inside these paintings is tremendous. I can see the metaphor between life and death on this style. For instance: the insects around the fruit that represent death and the fruit represents life. It is clear that the fruit is still healthy, but soon it would die.

The photographer Hector Rene Membreno-Canales uses the style of Dutch still life to make a point on today’s society. This message is very direct. The placed fruits, and wine with guns and smoke masks. He directly linked the two opposite ideas into one composition. It is clear that he is referring to life and death. Fruit represents life and guns represent death. The color pallet he used was complementary colors. Also, we cam conclude that in other to survive we need to fight and he represented that in these pictures.

Differentiation R2: Marielos Osorio

Based on the reading we had in class, I can conclude that Ads are here to change your perspective about products. Brands need to be different from each other, but that does not mean that the product is different necessarily. The products are associated with an ‘image.’ This image can affect the way people perceive this product. For example, if a famous soccer player wears something from the brand NIKE, then people will associated the successful life of the soccer player with the product itself. Technically, the product and the famous person have to have a relationship at some point. Additionally, if the famous person is not known around the world, then this impact is lost. But in most cases, the ad reaches its market audience. Furthermore, the ‘image’ of a famous person can be change. For instance, if a woman needs to show a strong ‘image’ then she would be shown differently. It would be more of a ‘fighter image.’ All depends on the product.
