Orientation Day at Pop Century

Week 2 has been a little more hectic. I had training ALL WEEK at Disney University learning all of the ins and outs of front desk. Everyday we had about 6 hours of powerpoints and then “lab”.  “Lab” was in a seperate room down the hall. This room was a mock lobby.  I was somewhat anxious about actually getting behind the desk and checking in and out “guests” even though it was just my fellow colleagues.  I think I did okay, getting a little more confident each day.  I defenitely need to need to practice a lot more.

There are so many abbreviations I need to memorize. These abbreviations that I post on a guest’s profile sends information to the back office about specific information pertaining to their check-in and stay overall.

A few examples are:

GWAIT = Guest waiting at resort for ready room after arrival

GPARK = Guest arrived and went to parks after arrival

TDRUGS = Guest is expecting a Turner Drugs Delivery

MBBOX = Guest has been issued their magicband shipment

It is somewhat scary, but I’m sure with time I will get much more comfortable with the system.  Luckily I am working 1 on 1 with a trainer all next week.

Today was my first day not at Disney University.  I had an orientation at my cast services building.  Since my resort, “Disney’s Pop Century Resort – Through the Decades” is next to “Disney’s Art Of Animation Resort” they share a cast services building as well as a costuming building.  It is MUCH bigger than the cast building/costuming at my old resort, “Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarters Resort”.  I am nervous, but excited for what comes next.  Looking forward to finally being in the “show” and getting behind the front desk assisting guests!

Congrats! I think it is super exciting to be able to make magic for guests at the Front Desk since you will be able to interact with so many people! If possible, please aid Brittney Love in providing some advice as she is stationed in your old resort!

  2. I still remember some of the terms from when I was a CP (protein spill, alpha unit…) so I am sure you will get to know your list and it will stick with you forever. My leader actually received a Alpha Unit call while we were walking the Magic Kingdom during our Traditions.

Being able to use the mock space is valuable, not many organizations use such a tool, it is very expensive to dedicate space to training.
