Peek Through The Eyes of an Adventure

Greetings! My name is Evans Alexandre, Iā€™m a twenty-two year old senior at City Tech majoring in Communication Design. I was born and raised in the vast lands of Queens, New York, and over time, Iā€™ve developed a fiery passion for photography, film, art, and production, and a mild obsession with hip-hop instrumentals and anything that has to do with science fiction. My short term goals are to eventually work at a media/production company to help make videos, movies and TV, and in the long term I want to make a TV show and publish a novel and photography book. The world is a massive place, and since Iā€™m an explorer at heart, this year at The Buzz
Iā€™ll be photoblogging about the various places, events, and hidden gems that New York and its neighboring states have to offer.

My desired blog theme is to share my travels and exploration around New York, Philly and Maryland through photography. I love going to places to experience and learn new things, and my goal is for the readers of this blog to learn through my experiences. I want to give readers a chance to live vicariously through an adventurer. Everything and everyone has a story, and through photography, it is my hope that you learn something new or expand on knowledge you already have. a smiling young man in a jean jacket airplane view of the city

A Profile of ‘Amanda’

Hey City Tech, my name is Amanda and I am here to inform you all on things to do across the city at a low cost and even for free! Often times I catch people saying ā€œIā€™m tired of the city. Thereā€™s nothing to do but to go to the park, movies and bowling,ā€ but there is so much more to the city than just that! In my blog I am also going to be Ā incorporating events/workshops for students to attend at City Tech that you may not be aware of. Ā As a student majoring in Law and Paralegal Studies Ā I am aware of how easy it is for college students to get lost in their studies. I myself fell in this category my first two years of college. I found myself having the same routine and also being ā€˜stagnantā€™ in my college career. Ever since I got involved in school activities along with going out, exploring and taking time to do something outside of my major I noticed that not only my experiences have increased but most importantly my network has expanded. Thereā€™s more to college than just a degree and even a 4.0 GPA! Go out and explore things across the city and even within City Tech. Ā Ā

Jean-Luc Marcel Antoine, is a native of Haiti and has been living in New York City since a major earthquake damaged a huge part of his beloved homeland in 2010. He has found NYC to be a wonderful second home and heĀ wants to make the most out of the opportunities the city has to offer. Because of his love, appreciation, interest and passion for science, biomedical sciences, he is currently pursuing a bachelor degree in Bioinformatics at New York City College of Technology. He enjoys participating in clubs and other fun extracurricular activities at City Tech and other places to broaden his horizons and meet new people along the way. Jean-Luc has many passions and one which is photography. Through photography he loves to document about the New York experience by looking at it from an inside perspective. By exploring NYCā€™s interesting places and events, he has found to be a passion to show his discoveries by portraying New Yorkā€™s uniqueness, diversity, people and culture. Thus he is a photo blogger at the City Tech OpenLabā€™s Ā ā€œThe Buzzā€ which is a great platform for him to share his art with the City Tech community and the world.Ā Not just for entertainment, Jean-Luc is a football (soccer) fanatics that loves and is a very die hard supporter of the beautiful game especially for his beloved team New York City FC for which he has traveled in many parts of the country to see play. Apart from that Jean-Luc is someone that likes taking part in adventures to travel to influence and help others by volunteering and in any other ways possible in order to make the world a better place.

This semester, my blogging of interest and what going to focus about is a project that I call ā€œHumans of City Techā€. It is an idea inspired by Brandon Stanton whom is the creator of the fantastic New Yorkā€™s blog ā€œHumans of New Yorkā€. My goal is to create a movement in order to humanize the community of New York City College of Technology by featuring the humans that study, work, freqent affiliated in some ways and frequent this institution. Thus basically the idea is to go around City Tech and to interview students, faculty and staff and tell their stories in the most unique ways from their own perspective and find what makes them apart from everyone else. I plan to have conversations with people from the City tech community in which they tell me about a particular question that I asked or anything they want to share. One huge aspect of the project is to connect the students, faculties and staff stories with their portrait or a photo that can best represent them. Ā Ā The reason why Iā€™m so interested to take on this new project and to do ā€œHumans of City Techā€ (HOCT) is because I want to humanize City Tech. Some people may have a lot of interesting things to share or is looking to be heard but do not have the audience to listen to them, thus by sharing their stories or any particular thing about them, Iā€™m hopeful that they will have the chance to get noticed by all City Tech community. It is a good way for students and others from the City Tech community to make friends, connection and find people that have similar interests as them.

Virtues from Motherhood: What is a Mom?

Hello all, my name is Samantha and Iā€™m a Professional and Technical Writing major here at CityTech. Currently in my senior year, Iā€™m involved with several offices on campus, in addition to The Buzz Iā€™m a Peer Mentor for the First Year Programs office and a Social Media Intern for the FYLC. Iā€™ve been blogging for the OpenLab since January 2016 and even write my own blog, Rebel Mom Web. As a passionate writer Iā€™m driven to make a difference with my words. Inspired by my 7-year-old daughter Ava, my blog posts reflect the wisdom Iā€™ve gained as a single mom whoā€™s determined to make her goals a reality. When Iā€™m not at school or a busy working you can find me exploring the city with my camera and looking for trendy new places to eat. Although Iā€™m a born and raised Brooklynite I enjoy traveling and hope see more of the world after graduation.

The theme for my blog this semester will continue on from the spring semester. My blog’s ā€œnameā€ Virtues from Motherhood will remain, however the segment Things I want my Daughter to Know, will not. I have chosen to stick with one name because it is easier for readers to remember and easier to promote, they shared the overarching theme anyway. The motivation or rationale behind my blog is being relatable and letting students know they’re not alone, more and more single moms, young moms or just parents in general are coming back to higher education to better their lives. As a single mom (and a teen mom) myself I can speak from a place of experience and I hope that by sharing my story, my obstacles or coping methods to get through things, that I can inspire other young women to stick it out as well, that their goals are possible.

Last semester I found that it wasnā€™t just moms that were reading my material, I had a classmate send me an email and thank me for writing because one of my posts helped him realize the changes he needed to make to save his relationship. Iā€™ve realized that sometimes all people need is to feel they are not alone, that the world is not abandoning them and that someone out there knows how they feel and got through it. I believe by continuing to be honest and upfront about situations, expectations and getting through things that my readers will return to my blog and new ones will find something to identify with and become regular readers.
