1.} In terms of philanthropy, Goya has been a supporter of nearly 300 charitable programs as well as scholarships and endeavors. They promote culture being a Hispanic food industry further bringing people together while being informative. They also been involved in numerous disaster relief efforts providing food and resources such as volunteer work.
2.) The key similarity between Goya and YaYa tea as a brand is that they both promote culture but appeal to other consumers outside of the companies original background.
3.) In terms of philanthropy, YaYa tea should have appreciation months such as promoting different things such as cancer awareness, by maybe putting pink ribbons on there tea cups during the month of October or discounts on veterans day.

    1. Denise H. Sutton, PhD Post author

What you are suggesting here is what public relations professionals call “seasonal” promotion. The marketer scans the marketing environment for seasonal opportunities to promote–such as the holiday season we are fast approaching now: what kind of promotion could YaYa do around the holidays? Valentine’s Day? Black History Month? Women’s History Month? Veterans Day? etc…. Good insight.

1.In terms of philanthropy and social responsibility, Goya has a national initiative called “Goya Gives” where they contribute foods to the communities in need. Goya tries to improve the quality of life by supporting charities, programs, scholarships, and events that benefits the community shape. They also take leads in many disaster relief efforts, supplying the food contributions, and continuously working with local food banks, charities, and nonprofits.

2.In my perspective, Goya Foods and Yaya Tea don’t have any similarities in terms of “brand” because Yaya Tea doesn’t mention their brand story on their website.

3.Yaya Tea already has a “Go-Green” statement where as they offer glass bottle drinks, and want people to reuse to a get discount. An idea would be to try make that as a headline and major part of Yaya tea and include deals like if they reuse 3 glass bottle drinks, they receive a free small bubble tea drink with any choice of Onigiri. Another idea would be, to start a donation charity to farmers, so they can grow more publicity but also create a good cause.

    1) What goya foods do in terms of philanthropy and social responsibilities are supporting almost 300 charitable endeavors, programs, scholarships and events that benefits people and communities. They promote food donations to victims of various disasters worldwide.
    2) Similarities between goya food and yay tea is both of them have good mission statements, they both use social media to promote their brand worldwide. The brand story for goya is the national initiative committed to promoting and supporting the overall well being of our communities. Yaya brand story is a freshly brewed tea taken to another level by adding various jellies or popping boba into their drinks.
    3) My ideas for yay regarding to philanthropy, social responsibilities and marketing projects are making a variety of foods in every yaya tea store. Also working on getting commercials to help build awareness as well as placing a lot of flyers everywhere so people can see what yay tea has in store.

1.Goya has a good brand story and company values are very nice. I liked the most the part with the American Dream. In terms of social responsibility Goya has a huge list of events they have been attending, sponsoring and helping. The numbers of food they have been giving away to charities and organizations are really amazing, tons of pounds worldwide. And also that the company is really worried about the environment is very important because all their efforts like using solar power, painting the ceilings into white color and energy efficient bulbs and motion sensors, all shows that they care not only about making money but environment too.
    2. About the similarities about Ya Ya and Goya I think they are nothing similar only that both are in food and beverage industry. Ya Ya has no brand story and is a new and young company and I wish and hope they will be at the high level as Goya is.
    3. My idea for Ya Ya is to attend the Children’s Homes and Hospitals as they mentioned that their target market is kids. And another idea is to contribute the left food everyday to community even though they don’t make the rice balls in advance but only customer orders, but they make rice everyday I think, so at least something. And the last idea is to sponsor organizations supporting Breast cancer program since the owner is young female entrepreneur.

    1. Anani

I really love your idea of involvement in children’s hospitals and women empowerment! These are both great ways to not only inspire, but also drive traffic.

    2. Denise H. Sutton, PhD Post author

I like how you are connecting the identity of the owner with a charity. Since this puts the spotlight on a young, female entrepreneur, this could also be a part of the brand story. And remember the grandmother image they are interested in making part of YaYa? The owner’s grandmother inspired her to start YaYa! Brand story elements.

    1. Goya has gave a huge amount of food to many different places because of the disaster problem. And they work with organizations, for example like school, church, hospital … etc. Goya has a plan called, Goya Give that helps many people in the community.

    2. I think Goya and Yaya are two different concepts, although they both sell food and they work as a family but I think the way Goya use for their company won’t fit Yaya. Yaya sales the idea of being fresh food but also quick and easy to eat. But Goya sells can food that people can buy in most of the food market.

    3. Yaya has already started the idea of recycling by using glasses bottle but it seems only work in some city. It is a good start and can be promoted to customers more about how they want the world environment to be better by some small changes of the bottle they use. I think they can donate and cooperate with some organization that also want to promote recycling and save the environment.

    1. Mim

I like the fact that you mentioned about donating and cooperating with some organization for promoting recycling and saving the environment. That was a good cause.

    2. Denise H. Sutton, PhD Post author

It sounds like you are saying YaYa is a fast food place where the “fast” is also “fresh.” This is what sets them apart from other fast food businesses. I wonder if you could get that message into the mission statement?

    1. Goya has been a proud supporter of nearly 300 charitable endeavors programs scholarship and event that promote culture and benefit overall community wellness, disater relief effort providing food donation in times of crisis and consistently working with locals.
    2. Yes they are similar in the way they promise high quality food spices and pure water.
Goyas products are as important as it is the importance of family values and achieving the American dream.
Yaya specializing in freshly brewed tea through a purifier filtration system.
    3. They should explain their goals as a company and franchise also to explain to there costumers if they are involved with any programs to help out certain communities or anything they thing are involved with.

  7. Syed124

    1. Goya Foods with regard to philanthropy and social responsibility has shown it is a massive supporter of social programs, fellowship, and events which ultimately benefits families worldwide. Annually, Goya indulges openly with cultural and regional food banks in philanthropic efforts to promote and advance community wellness. In addition. Goya took action with many emergency and disaster efforts, as well as continually worked with the local charitable organizations and help those who were less fortunate.

    2. One similarity would be Goya foods and Yaya Tea both embody the roots of what their brand is about by offering a traditional set of food associated with their culture.

    3. Yaya tea can pursue this idea where they design a card created by the company that customers can use when they make a purchase and set up this system that allows people to have the option of donating the change they receive to a charity organization.

  8. TiffanieChen

    1. Goya provides aid for those in need. They are proud to say that they have been a supporter for about 300 charities. They positioned themselves as a leader in the Hispanic food industries and help contribute to Latin culture. They have shown nothing but support for the communities that need help.

    2. As for similarities with Yaya Tea, the owners talked about trying to incorporate their grandma as their story and face of their brand. However, instead of a family based inspiration behind their brand, Goya’s story seems to be Latin culture empowerment and cuisine.

    3. I hope Yaya Tea will collaborate with more kid friendly events because that is the majority of their customers. I also think that it is a good idea for them to branch into franchising so they can do more without having the stress of not having enough help from their family.

  9. Christina

    1. Goya Foods do in terms of social responsibility and/or philanthropy by having an initiative called “Goya Gives” where they contribute foods to the communities in need. They supported over early 300 charitable programs ,scholarships, and events that promote culture and benefit overall community wellness, disaster relief effort providing food donation in times of crisis and consistently working with locals.

    2. Between Yaya Tea and Goya Foods the similarities are that they are family based companies in a food and beverage industry. But the differences between them is that the Yaya Tea owners talked about trying to incorporate their grandma as their story and face of their brand. However, instead of a family based inspiration behind their brand, Goya’s story seems to be Latin culture empowerment and cuisine.

    1. What Goya Foods does in terms of Social Responsibility has a program called “Goya Gives” that Supports Communities, Environments, and Company Values. Some things Goya does that supports communities are supporting charities, programs, scholarships, and events to promote culture wellness.

    2. There are no similarities between Goya and YaYa Tea in terms of the brand because YaYa Tea does not have a background story in which how YaYa Tea all started.

    3. Some Ideas that may help YaYa Tea with social responsibilities is to go to hospitals and charities that can give people rice ball and tea. And also to get reusable cups just like Starbucks to help the environment and decrease pollution.

    1. In terms of Philanthropy/Social responsibility, Goya Gives not only demonstrates their corporate/social responsibility but solidifies the dedication to social causes and the values they hold true to the foundation of Goya Foods. It is also a way to interact with their consumers and customers by encouraging them to participate and to help others in need. The ‘Can Do’ campaign is Goya’s way to give back to the community and provide consumers with the opportunity to be a part of Goya and Feeding America’s fight to end hunger in the United States.

    2. As for similarities, it can be said that YAYA Tea and Goya Food both are family based companies in food and beverage industry. In terms of differences between those two companies, the main fact is YAYA Tea has a family based inspiration behind their brand because the YAYA Tea owner talked about trying to incorporate their grandma as their story and face of the brand, whereas the Goya’s story seems to be Latin Culture empowerment and cuisine.

    3. YAYA Tea has a existing statement which is called- “Go-Green”, where they offer beverages in glass bottles and for getting discount- they want people to reuse. According to me- one idea would be giving more discounts in case the customers were able to reuse more bottles. They should also include some deals just like giving free beverage or small amount of foods in the customers keep doing that since very long time. They should also start a policy where they can increase more publicity and create reasons to attract customers.

    1. Denise H. Sutton, PhD Post author

Those are excellent incentives! You can work on a more detailed plan around incentives for the marketing plan. You should be able to explain how giving away a small amount of product can benefit the business–this will take a bit of research into incentive strategies.

1.) Goya foods does a lot to help out the community, they have a whole program called “Goya Gives” that help people in need. They work with charities and other events that benefit the community. They do a lot for the people
2.) They’re not much similarities between Goya and YaYa Tea, they’re actually different. Goya are more of a can food brand and YaYa Tea is more fresh, not canned food. So there are no similarities between them
3.) Ideas for YaYa Tea that will help them with social responsibilities is to be more like Goya. Try and work with charities and that could also help get the name more noticeable, since there target are schools and hospitals, try to work with them and maybe donate to them. Should do more of the recycle method they have already with their glass bottles. Start programs that could help the environment and explain it to their customers, and maybe they will join or help and donate

  14. Anani

    1. Goya has a whole page on their website called “Goya Gives” dedicated to community wellness, social responsibility, and company values. They also share their latest events in detail so anyone viewing the website can be up to date on what Goya is doing to for the community.

    2. Both brands take pride in the quality of their food, but that’s all YaYa seems to focus on in their “About” section. Judging solely on the website and not the information you’ve told us, there is no brand story behind YaYa. Goya explains their rich history through the years and includes pictures to make it seem real for whoever is viewing their website.

    3. They can visit local schools and talk to kids about what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur in a fun way! They could cater the event with their food which would be a great way to get not just kids, but parents excited about their products too. Maybe going to a school that one of them actually graduated from would make more of an impact for the kids and really inspire them.

    1. KevKev

I actually didn’t know about the Goya Gives until I looked it up and it’s just amazing. how they have a page helping multiple charities and people through that site.

    2. AgnesCsepany

What a great idea to visit schools they have graduated from to inspire future entrepreneurs. That’s 2 in 1 because they could potentially gain a lot of customers!

    3. Denise H. Sutton, PhD Post author

I like the idea of focusing on entrepreneurship as a way to introduce children to the brand. It’s a more subtle sell, and the children are learning something and meeting an actual entrepreneur!

  15. KevKev

    1. What does Goya Foods do in terms of social responsibility and/or philanthropy?
In terms of social responsibility/philanthropy, Goya does a really good job helping those in needs and donating to charities because they care about the people that are in need of help. They’re doing everything they can to help for those in need and they do it all on their Goya Gives page.

    2. Are there any similarities between Goya Foods and YaYa Tea (in terms of “brand”)? If so, what are they? What is the story of each brand?
The similarities between Goya Foods and YaYa Tea in terms of brand is that they both have this unique story behind their brand and Goya Foods on one hand has incorporated it on the other hand YaYa Tea is trying to incorporate a grandma figure into their brand.

    3. What are your ideas for YaYa Tea with regard to philanthropy, social responsibility, and/or cause marketing projects? Any suggestions?
Some suggestions for YaYa Tea regarding to philanthropy, social responsibility, and/or cause marketing projects are to target the health market since their foods are healthy and some of their drinks as well. If they do that it’ll put theirselves out there and they’ll get recognized. Another would be since they target children they can start working with schools and somehow get them to sell their products in school.

    1. Denise H. Sutton, PhD Post author

Working with schools is a great idea. Maybe even researching after-school programs (and the organizations that provide additional services) to see if you can get into the public schools via a nonprofit. I don’t know the process for getting a food product into a public school, so that research would have to be a part of your marketing plan.

    2. Are there any similarities between Goya Foods and YaYa Tea (in terms of “brand”)? If so, what are they? What is the story of each brand? I do see a similarity in which both are a family based company. Goya Foods story surrounds the Latin culture meanwhile yaya tea revolves around the grandma in which they are trying to develop.

    3. What are your ideas for YaYa Tea with regard to philanthropy, social responsibility, and/or cause marketing projects? Any suggestions?

YAYA Tea already has a statement which is called- “Go-Green”, where they offer beverages in glass bottles and for getting discount- they want people to reuse. It is good because most of their products supplies come from Taiwan which is very supportive of the going green statement

And after Mindy and Gary visited the class, I realized that both Goya and YaYa have to educate their customers (and potential customers) about their food. How would you incorporate this type of education into your marketing plan? Mindy and Gary specifically asked for that component to be included…

  17. Elijah

    1. Goya strives for overall well-being across the world and supports hundreds of organizations that provide communities with scholarships, programs, and events. They acknowledge that there are many people in need of food and assists them with food donations. Goya has donated millions of pounds of food worldwide and shown that they care about the lives of everyone, no matter what country they live in.

    2. The only similarity in terms of brand between Yaya Tea and Goya Foods is that each brand specializes in traditional food from other countries and brings that food to the United States. Goya Foods story is oriented around the importance of family and Yaya Tea’s is also, however, Yaya Tea doesn’t promote that importance within their business.

    3. Yaya Tea should be active within each of their stores communities. Doing things like hosting events for kids and giving leftover food to the less fortunate will allow people to see that Yaya Tea isn’t only focused on making profit.

  18. Lab_dash

    1) In terms of philanthropy and social responsibility Goya Foods has taken the lead in numerous disaster relief effort providing food donations in times of crisis and is consistently working with local charities. they have a whole page dedicated to their charity work called ‘Goya Gives’.

    2) Though both brands care about the quality of their food, there have a vastly different brand story YAYA’s story is more family oriented, whereas Goya’s story seems to be centered around Latin Cuisine and culture.

    3) To be as successful as Goya YAYA should give to charities or donate to foundations that hold meaning to them; like schools, hospitals, gyms, whatever they may be.

    1. Denise H. Sutton, PhD Post author

YaYa is currently involved with City Tech’s Giving Tuesday campaign. The class will have the opportunity to repost some content for City Tech and YaYa–and this helps raise money for the Dept of Business’ students. I’ll have City Tech’s creative team come to class and talk about how they put this campaign together.

In terms of social responsibility, Goya donated food to many countries around the world that faced natural disasters over the years. Goya donated food to hurricane Sandy, Isaac and Irene victims. Goya donated money and food to Haiti and partherened with many charities that helped Haiti after the January 12, 2012 earthquake. Goya also supports programs that helps children, and families that are struggling or just less fortunate than others. Over the years, Goya worked with over 300 programs to better communities around the world. The company also gives back to the hispanic community by partnering with charities that promotes community wellness and growth all around the world.
There are some similarities between Goya food and YaYa Tea; both companies sell products that originate from another culture. YaYa Tea products originated from japan, goya products originate from the latin culture. YaYa Tea brand story is they import unique snacks from japan. YaYa tea also use a filtration system where the premium tea is brewed on a freshly basis. YaYa Tea also promotes what makes their bubble tea different from other bubble tea company concretely, they add many different jelly that burst in your mouth, unlike other bubble tea places. As for Goya food, the owners were immigrants from puerto rico/spain trying to achieve the American dreams. From the beginning of the business venture they valued family, they whole Unanue family worked together to make sure their business succeed. They sold high quality Latin food and Latin products such as olive, olive oil, Sardines and more to their communities. Eventually the product became in high demand so they expanded the business tremendously.
YaYa tea definitely have to improve the brand story, they have to find a way to catch and maintain customers attention. They have to create values for those customers. They definitely should talk more about how the business got started, give the guess a story to relate to (I would have to talk to the owners to get a specific idea). They also can partner with charities and events to promote their products more. YaYa tea needs a brand representor, a face for the company ( a asian person preferably). Another way to improve YaYa bubble tea is by training staff to be more hospitable and knowledgeable about the products being sold

How do you feel about YaYa’s grandmother icon idea? What could be the brand story around that image? Mindy said that her grandmother inspired her to start the tea shop. Do you think that could be the seed of the story?

  20. AgnesCsepany

1.) Goya supports nearly 300 charitable endeavors, programs, scholarships, and events that promote culture and benefit overall community wellness. They donate millions of pounds of food during disaster relief efforts as well as local food banks, charities and non-profits. Goya is also the largest user of solar energy within Hispanic owned food & beverage companies and ranks in the top 10 corporate solar users in the food and beverage industry in the US.
2.) Goya and YaYa Tea are both brands that have a somewhat different culture than American culture and both brands had to/are trying to bring that culture to the American customers. Each brand has to introduce their products and teach/explain what they are to customers. They are also both family owned companies, promoting family values and traditions, and both companies have emigrated to the US and started their American Dream.
3.) YaYa is already on the path to greener products as well as reusing glass tea bottles. Perhaps donating leftover food to food banks and/or almost/soon-to-expire foods as well. Since they are honoring their grandmother with the brand, maybe they could support a nursing home or senior citizen community center by donating food and delicious teas. Bigger signs in the stores to promote recycling would also benefit, as customers are more likely to do so if they are more encouraged. Maybe giving a slight discount on teas to customers who bring in their own bottles (not the reusable YaYa tea bottles) could encourage greener business as well as generate new customers through word of mouth.

1: Goya foods contributes food to people in need and help out in other activities in terms of social responsibility and philanthropy.
2: Both of them are targeting Americans. Owners of both brands are from a different country. They both offer products that are high qualified. Both of them pay attention to the environment (how their products affects the environment.
3: They should maybe have a contest in between communities, and schools to see who can unwrap the rice bowl and the winner should receive a reward.
