Album covers remain a part of the listening experience whether it’s an artist you already listen to or you discovered for the first time. They have a symbiotic relationship that both inform each other. Similar to a painting and the artist they reflect each other because they are telling a story through art. Artists have a lot of creative freedom when it comes to album art since the most important medium they have is their music. Some album artwork can be the most detailed, hyper-realistic, beautiful work of art you have ever seen or it could literally be a minimalistic album cover of just a solid color and a parental advisory warning in the corner. Album art can also be seen as branding for that artist as well.
