The author’s approach seems to have taken an asymmetry approach. Asymmetry proved to be better than the traditional design/ typography of the past because the design didn’t follow a systematic grid where everything is uniform and aligned but instead the system is broken and the designs become more expressive. In the old typography, the layout of elements was fixed in areas not enabling the designer to explore new methods or layouts. The work was designed with personal preference and no sense of hierarchy or flow to the designs. While on the other hand with the new typography/ design creators started thinking about their approaches to what message they were trying to convey to the public.
The role that typography , photography and other media play in shaping a new kind of design is by making it easier for creatives to conceptualize design and giving them new ways to explore outside of the systematic formal they had to work with.
The technological advance influenced forms and theories in the early 20th century by setting a standard that fits for all and works for all designs and platforms enabling the expression of different aesthetics. Technology also brought about the change that sometimes letters do not have to be used for copy but it can also be used as a design elemental giving designers even more creative expression when expressing themselves to help better convey a message.
