F.T. Marinetti, “Manifesto of Futurism”; Aleksandr Rodchenko, “Who We Are: Manifesto of the Constructivist Group”; and El Lissitzky, “Our Book” are found in our main text Graphic Design Theory: Readings From the Field by Helen Armstrong on pages 19-31.

Both manifestos were created to address the idea of authorship in the textbook since they both aim to change the world with their innovative designs. Both manifestos aim to expand other artists’ and designers’ imaginations and push them farther. They are attempting to communicate with the rest of the world through their design. Their approaches may differ because the manifesto of futurism is more aggressive, whereas the constructivist manifesto said that “technology is the mortal enemy of art.” Technology may be harmful because many programs nowadays just do the art for you by giving various sorts of brushes to simplify the process for artists, yet many argue that with these easily accessible tools, everyone can be an artist. Things that are relevant in the text since artists are constantly attempting to create something unique. People are more experimental as a result of previous artists who never stopped pushing their boundaries to create a new era om the design and art world.  Some elements of these manifestos can be problematic, especially the manifesto of futurism, which discussed how they would glorify war, destroy museums, libraries, and feminism, among other things, which sounds extremely problematic. In the 20th century, communication has transformed due to the way social media has connected us all to one another and to everything. We get to see different artists work through social media. Many artists get both positive and negative comments, and I think it is beneficial to see what people think of my work.
