Research Project Presentation- K.W.

How Designers Speak for What’s Important

In this project, I wanted to know how designers use the power they have with design to communicate to the world issues that are important. I found that issues that are often forgotten or ignored are what they communicate to the world about. The issues I focused on was racial inequality and human trafficking. I talk about three different designers and how they use their work as a platform for informing the world about these issues.

I liked how you brought up a topic that has to be addressed because we don’t hear much about human trafficking. As designers, we have the power to change via our work, which I am sure many designers are currently doing. I liked the clothes that sends a powerful message to the world. Great job!

Hi Kayla, I liked that in your video you mention the different types of designers from fashion designers to graphic designers. I like that you brought up how sometimes seeing or making designs that talk about these issues can be difficult and sometimes uncomfortable but it’s important to talk about them. Your passing in the video was very good and you sounded very clear, my only comment would be to not show the citations at the end because it’s so brief so you can’t see it that much but if you were to publish this maybe include it in the description.

Kayla! Your presentation was already strong from the draft you showed the class, but these final changes have enhanced the effectiveness of the communication of your project. Cutting out the part debriefing sex trafficking & more deeply integrating the introductions of the designers. Your commentary on the designers was informative but brief enough to hold my attention for the entire presentation. Very powerful messaging!
