Yaritza Burgos: Project Proposal Unit 3

I want to teach my audience that race shouldn’t determine where and how you live. My audience is mainly people of color who relate to this injustice and wants change. A genre I’m interested on doing is a magazine/new york times article. I chose this because people would be more interested in reading it. I will search for images and a good title to help catch people’s eye on my magazine style article.

“New York is one of the most segregated areas in the country.” This quote inspired me to research more on my topic because it show’s how new york has always been struggling to give affordable housing to people and it has been going on for decades. Everyone should be able to feel and be comfortable in their own home. Race should not determine where you live.

Yaritza, these issues are certainly important and urgent for all audiences, and I’m glad you are thinking about how you might get the information you found in your research to readers of color. Try to think about which magazine articles you will draw your writing style from. Are you thinking of a newspaper that has a local geographic audience (such as Brooklynr) or a magazine like Essence magazine? These are just two of many possibilities, but the magazine you choose will affect how you present your material. Make sure you make the quotations clear. Where did you find the quote you offer above? You will have to correctly cite it in your magazine article. Let me know if you have further questions.
