Assistant Construction Inspector at DOB

An entry level position, this position receives training and  under close supervision, performs technical work construction inspection, repairs or alteration of structures for conformity with NYC Construction Codes, Department rules, other pertinent laws and rules, and approved plans.Other duties include:

  • Perform field surveys and sweeps of work sites and structures to check for conformance with approved applications, plans, and specifications in accordance with the NYC Construction Code, Zoning Resolution, or other pertinent laws and rules enforced by the Department of Buildings
  • Perform technical inspections of structures under construction, alteration or repair for conformity with NYC Construction Codes, Department rules, other pertinent laws and rules
  • Study architectural and engineering drawings of buildings and other structures to obtain details for inspections
  • May operate a motor vehicle in the performance of assigned duties

To be considered for an Assistant Construction Inspector interview candidates must have:

  • 2 years of full-time experience working in the construction field. Construction field experience include working as carpenter, mason, ironworker, plasterer, architect, engineer, building construction superintendent, or construction inspector; or
  •   60 credits towards a degree in civil engineering, engineering technology, architecture, architectural technology, construction management; or
  •  A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering, engineering technology, architecture, architectural technology or construction management and at least 1 year of fulltime experience in the construction field
  •  A valid New York State motor vehicle driver license

Working as a roofer, painter, sheet-metal worker, metal lather, sheetrock taper, glazier, or insulation installer is not acceptable experience. Mechanical engineering technology is not an acceptable degree to be considered for an interview.

NYC DOB- Women in Engineering Roundtable 03/21/20

This spring, the NYC Department of Buildings will host its first ever Women in Engineering Roundtable for female engineering students interested in future careers in a number of different engineering tracks(civil/structural, mechanical, and sustainability engineering). This event will be an in-depth resume-building experience.

On Tuesday, March 31st, at DOB headquarters, from 4pm to 6pm, we’ll be offering female engineering students the opportunity to receive mentoring sessions with our licensed engineers and to hear from our professionals about possible career paths within the premiere construction regulation agency in NYC.

Additionally, students will have the opportunity to learn about college aide positions, upcoming full-time positions, and future internships. Participating students will also receive a tour of the agency, a catered networking dinner, and, for the first 40 registrants, resume review/professional development assistance directly from our experience professionals.

Entry Level Position at Empire Architectural Metal & Glass

Entry Level Position:

Empire Architectural Metal and Glass Corp. is looking for someone to fill an full time entry level position. Candidate must be able to:

  • Manage bid solicitations (emails) and
  • Print out architectural drawings for estimating, drafting and project management departments.
  • Eventually this position will be responsible for project submittals, generating hardware cuts, and other additional responsibilities as they grow into their role.

There will definitely be room to move up within the company. This will be a great place to start as you will be able to soak up a lot of information.

They are located in Queens, NY (College Point) and this will be a full time position:

Monday-Friday from either 7:00AM-4:00PM or 8:00AM to 5:00PM.
