From watching “(un)Learning my Name” and reading “Zayn Malik and the Songs that Bring us to Prayer” it has made me believe the environment around us impacts our identity. In “(un)Learning my Name” Mohamed struggles with his identity because of society’s mispronunciation of his name. In “Zayn Malik and the Songs that Bring us to Prayer” Zayn is able to express himself freely and create his own identity despite his religion. I believe my name and culture are a significant part of my identity. School has made me the writer and thinker I am today because it helps me see through other perspectives. My family has influenced my goals because they’ve advised me to put effort in everything I do. My family has also influenced me by prioritizing my education. This has shaped me to be a determined person.
