Both readings highlight the importance of making connections with the audience/clients through graphic design and art. The world is changing rapidly from time to time and along with it the technology and the taste of individuals are also changing. Design as Art states that if art stands aside from the problems of life it will interest very few people. This means that good art and designs are not always a perfect masterpiece, for an art or design to be successful and for it to be admired by clients and audiences, it requires meaning and a problem that is being addressed and solved for its viewers. This shows how Art and design play a big role in our lives and cultures, a design that addresses our problems are more interesting compared to a real masterpiece that does not relate to anything.
Graphic Design Theory states that “Theory is all about the question “why?” The process of becoming a designer is focused largely on “how”. Design is all about solving problems, designers don’t make work for themselves or through their own instincts instead, they observe the demands of the world and its people, it’s not about what designers themselves want it’s all about what the world seeks. Design is very different compared to other creativities because it requires a clear understanding of the world and solving its real issues.
Both readings state the importance of thinking and how it brings up solutions to different problems. Designers concern themselves with unsolvable theoretical problems because most of these problems may require different perceptions and can have different answers. Trying to solve these unsolvable theoretical questions can lead to different ideas one better than the other which clearly helps the designers to strengthen their work very differently.
The most important problem that designers and artists face every day is to adapt to the changing technology and taste of audiences to keep the work alive by addressing different ideas and problems. Technology can produce almost everything, when photography came into existence the art started to lose its value for which artists had to think of a way of keeping art alive. Artists learned that art not always needs to be realistic and came up with different abstract techniques to keep art alive. Just like that many famous designers made their work unique by incorporating both modern and post-modern techniques to their work. Thus, to keep their work fresh and to satisfy the audience, designers are responsible for solving these problems.
