During my semester at Disney I learned more than I thought I would because not only did I learn the subject in class but I got to see the real life example. Creativity and Innovation and Corporate Communication were both classes that gave me a lot to learn about like companies strategies, the application in the parks, the seven levels of change, community relationships companies have with the community. Today I will be speaking about my topic for my Corporate Communications Final which was Community Relations. There are three different types of relationships a company can have with the community. Philanthropy which are charitable donations, Cash or in kind contributions to local community causes or charities. Volunteering, employee volunteering programs. Employee volunteers are the most important resource of a company. Last but not least Partnering, companies engage in partnerships with community agencies and may form alliances with other organizations. These are relationships all companies should look into having with the community because it brings them better relationships and more customers. Huffington post says “Exercises in charity and philanthropy by companies must help them towards their goal in some way. Increased sales, greater brand or employee retention are examples of possible benefits to companies by working with nonprofit partners.” Disney has different ways of communicating with the community. They have Disney VoluntEARS and community outreach. Although the company has the three different types of relationships the most seen is philanthropy, “Through contributions, collaborating with nonprofit organizations, in-kind gifts and employee volunteerism, Disney brings positive, lasting change to communities around the world.” In my opinion it is really amazing how the Disney company also looks out for the community and different ways to help.

  1. This article helps realize the relationship between the community and an organization. A company can not only bring in revenue, they need to return some to the community in a way that makes sense to their stakeholders.
