High Key and Low Key

IMG_0752 IMG_0755I decided to take two photos in my home.  The first is of a plant in my living room.  The second is of a stool in the corner of my dining room.  I chose to let the plant represent a high key picture, as there is a lot of light in the picture.  The stool represents a low key picture as it sits in the dark corner of a room.

I placed the plant in a well lit area to give a joyous mood, as opposed to it being in a dark area, where it would feel depressing.  I felt that it also signified a sense of growth, as naturally, plants need light to grow.  The stool in the corner gives a feeling of loneliness and neglect.  It’s there in the dark, with nobody to sit on it.

Aural Topography: Staccato and Legato

Photo on 2013-09-30 at 06.41I believe I did a decent job grasping the concept of this assignment.  I feel like all of the different boxes connect the images inside of each other, as it was my goal to make the sounds seem like they’re fluctuating.  This assignment helped me to clearly understand stocato and logato, and what they might sound like.

Aural Topographies: Research

For the first part of this project, I chose the song By Myself by Linkin Park.  I would classify the song as having variety, instead of it being monotonous.  The song starts out with drums and bass guitars, which are loud, heavy and add intensity to the song.  When the verses come on, the drums and bass go away and a light instrumental plays.  When the chorus occurs, the drums and bass return, which result in pattern.

The drums and bass sound like they would create thin, wild, and static lines that cover a majority of the page.  They will frequently  rise and fall.  The slower verses will have lines that vary slightly.  They are mostly straight and occasionally rise and fall.  They also sound like very soft, thick lines.

A View From My Window

The view from my living room window consists of buildings, trees, roads and cars.  As a result, I see many straight and curved lines.  Squares, circles, rectangles, and even triangles are within my view.

The giant tree in front combines both straight lines and curved.  The cars contain both straight and curved lines as well, and have rectangular shapes.  The wheels serve as the circles I see.  Roads appear at an angle which look like triangles.  The buildings hold straight lines and are shaped like squares, rectangles, cubes, and rectangular prisms, depending on the angle you look at it at.
