TO-DO List, Session 10: Thursday, Oct. 1

For today’s Session 10, we will begin Unit 2: Creating an Annotated Bibliography

For today’s session:

  1. Read this post: Two Readings on Curiosity and Education
  2. Complete the Participation Activity on the Discussion Board using the ideas you glean from the readings and the post.
  3. If you have not done so yet, post your Education Narrative is due today on Blackboard SafeAssign. Below are two links provided earlier that might help:

Participation Activity

Discussion Board Title: Curiosity and Education

(Due any time before 10 am on Tuesday, Oct. 6 for attendance credit)

On the class Discussion Board, write two paragraphs exploring the ideas presented in the two readings in this post:

  1. In your first paragraph, consider one question or area of interest that you have always wanted to know more about. (You’ll be thinking about research questions soon so this is building toward that end.)
  2. In your second paragraph, consider and respond to Baldwin’s statement: “To ask questions of the universe, and then learn to live with those questions, is the way [the student] achieves [their] own identity.” What does Baldwin mean by this statement? What does this statement mean for you?
  3. Each paragraph can be around 4-5 sentences….though you can certainly write more!

To-Do List, Session 9: Sept. 24

For today’s Session 9, you will learn about posting your essay on SafeAssign and think about how to do Peer Review

For today’s session:

  1. Review: comments made by your peer review group! These should appear below your post.
  2. Review: comments your instructor will soon make on your post. These will not be visible to other students.
  3. Revise: your Education Narrative. Think about how to make your essay stronger using feedback from your group and your instructor.
  4. Watch: Video Presentation: How to Upload Work to Blackboard SafeAssign and read the instructions in the post
  5. Complete: the  Participation Activity below by Tuesday, Sept. 29
  6. Before 10 am, Thursday, Oct 1: Submit your Education Narrative onto SafeAssign. Log into Blackboard and submit here.

Participation Activity

Understanding the Technology Video: Blackboard SafeAssign

(Due any time before 10 am on Tuesday, Sept. 29 for attendance credit)

On the class Discussion Board, state that you have watched the video (see item 4 above) about using SafeAssign and let me know if you have further questions.  If you have no questions, you can state: I’ve watched the video and have no questions. But….if you do have questions, please ask them!

To-Do List, Session 8: Tuesday, Sept. 22

For today’s Session 8, you will comment on your peers’ Educational Narratives on the OpenLab.

For today’s session:

  1. Read: Essay 1 Peer Review Instructions: The Education Narrative
  2. Find: your peer review group here Peer Review, Essay 1: Group Assignments
  3. Watch: Video Presentation: How to Do Peer Review on the OpenLab
  4. Complete: the  Participation Activity below, comment on the peers in your assigned group using the instructions in #1 on this list. There are three observations to make.
  5. Remember: this Peer Review session  will be configured into the grade for your first essay. If you want a good grade on the essay, don’t skip today’s session! Participate by commenting on the group you are in!

Participation Activity

(Due before 10 am on Thursday, Sept. 24 for attendance credit)

Use the instructions above to comment on your peers’ work in your assigned group. Remember to check back tomorrow to see if a member in your group has added their work late. If there is no essay uploaded by 5 pm tomorrow (Sept. 23), you are not responsible for reading their work. If you have not uploaded yours yet, your peers are waiting! Don’t let them down! (It’s a group effort all! 🙂 )
