For today’s Session 16, you will comment on your peers’ Educational Narratives on the OpenLab

For today’s session:

1. Read: Peer Review Instructions: Unit 2, Source Entries
2. Find: your peer review group in Peer Review Group Assignments: Unit 2, Source Entries
3. Watch: Video Presentation: Peer Review Instructions
4. Complete: the  Participation Activity below, comment on the peers in your assigned group using the instructions in item #1 on this list. There are three observations to make.
5. Reminder 1: participation in this Peer Review session  will be configured into the grade for your Unit 2 Assignment. Participation includes uploading your own work AND commenting on members in the peer group you are assigned.
6. Reminder 2: Next week I will discuss and inform all students of mid-term grades. Participation in class activities (such as this one) is part of that assessment.

For today’s Session 15, we continue thinking about beginning  research for the Unit 2 Assignment:

For today’s session:

1. Read this post on how to create a source entry: Unit 2 Assignment: Source Entry Instructions (Remember for Unit 2 you are creating an Annotated Bibliography)
2. Read this post: “The Art of Quoting” by Graff and Berkenstein (includes tips and templates that will help with the quotation part of your source entries)
3. Complete: the Participation Activity for Session 15.
4. Note: Remember that participation and effort counts for a lot in this class! Like the Educational Narrative, Thursday’s Peer Review activities will be configured into the grade for the Unit 2 assignments.

For today’s Session 14, we continue thinking about beginning  research for the Unit 2 Assignment, creating an Annotated Bibliography.

Review: remember, you are looking for four sources for this bibliography. In order to do start this process, you learned where to find information in Session 13 with three resource posts on the library.  If you need to refresh, here they are again:

    • City Tech Library Resources, Part 3: Recommended Databases for ENG 1101-LC09
    • Remember, you must log in to the library using your CUNYfirst credentials. This often has your first name.last name and a number.( Example: John.Smith76) This is also what you use to log into Blackboard.

For today’s session:

1. Watch:  two video presentations
   • UPDATED Video Presentation 1: Library Research Demonstration In this video, I demonstrate finding sources in the library using Academic Search Complete
   • Video Presentation 2: Visual Example and Breakdown of Unit 2 Assignment In this video, I go over assignment 2 and show a visual example of an Annotated Bibliography. I also go over the Participation Activity
2. Review: Understanding the Annotated Bibliography: Descriptions and Examples. This post explains the Annotated Bibliography in context and how this is and will be used in your future research projects in college.
3. Complete: the Participation Activity for Session 14  (below).
4. Note: next week you will start receiving your mid-term assessments in all of your classes. Remember that participation and effort counts for a lot in this class! If you are in doubt about today’s assignment, at least give it a try!

Participation Activity, Session 14: One Annotated Bibliography Source Entry

(Due before 10 am, Tues., Oct. 20)

Continue your research and write one source entry as post on the OpenLab. To do this, you will need to watch both presentation videos for today!
