Peer Review Instructions: Complete Unit 2 Assignment

For Session 19, you will read and offer critique for submissions of the whole assignment in your assigned group. The instructions are below, followed by the critique questions. (If you need to review how to do this technically on the OpenLab, see the previous video on the Peer Review process here.)

  • Find the posts of people in your workshop groups in this post: Peer Review Group Assignments: Complete Unit 2 Assignment Scroll down until you find your name. The other names in your group are the writers you will critique. Students who have posted work have live links you can click on from that list.
  • Click on each of your group members’ posts and read their submission. Because most of the entries are in pdf format, you do not have to download the file, but you might want to have pen and paper handy to take notes as you read.
  • Read the overall submission.  Be respectful as you think about each work and respond to the text being shared. You are responding to the work, not the person. This requires that you be mature and thoughtful. This peer review is to provide ideas for further development.
  • To offer your critique, click on ‘Leave a comment.” If others have already commented, you might see “1 Comment” or “2 comments,” which you can also click on to add your comment.
  • In the box that appears for your comment, respond to your peers’ posts using:

FIVE GUIDING QUESTIONS FOR PEER REVIEW

  1. What is the main question or discussion your peer considers in the introductory section?
  2. Which source entry do you find most interesting?  Write a sentence or two that considers why  this source appeals to you. Is it the content? Is it the way your peer wrote about this particular source? IMPORTANT: Do any of the sources seem questionable for inclusion in a college essay? If so, which ones?
  3. What does the concluding section add to the paper?
  4. What makes this submission seem complete or incomplete?  You should see an introduction, 3-4 source entries (4 is required for the final assignment), and concluding section.
  5. Make a comment on the title of the overall work! Does it add to what you know of the assignment? (Hint: Unit 2 Assignment is not a title.)

Remember, you are not correcting grammar. Do keep your comments appropriate to our professional college level environment.

Important Note: For attendance credit, you should comment/critique on the submissions in your group except your own before 10 am, Thursday, Nov. 5. While you can respond to the comments on your own work, this is not a requirement for attendance credit.

A second note:  at the time of writing this post, some writers have yet to upload their work. Those names does not have a live link. Check back to see if those are uploaded late.

To-Do List, Session 17: Tuesday, Oct. 27

For today’s Session 17, you will start working on the Introductory and Concluding sections of the Unit 2 Annotated Bibliography AND finish  the peer review of the Unit 2 Source Entries on the OpenLab

For today’s session:

  1. Read: Unit 2 Annotated Bibliography: Introductory Section and Unit 2 Annotated Bibliography: Concluding Section
  2. Write: Start working on the Introductory and Concluding Sections of Unit 2
  3. Finish: the Peer Review! Due to low participation, I’m going to extend the dates for the Peer Review for the source entries. Using the Peer Review Instructions: Unit 2, Source Entries, find your peer review group in Peer Review Group Assignments: Unit 2, Source Entries. If you didn’t do so  last week, watch the Video Presentation: Peer Review Instructions. See also the note under the Participation Activity below.
  4. Reminder 1: this Peer Review session  will be configured into the grade for your Unit 2 Assignment. Participation includes uploading your own work AND commenting on members in the peer group you are assigned. Post something that can be reviewed by your peers (and then by me). If your three entries are not complete, post what you have so far.
  5. Reminder 2: I will post mid-term grades on Thursday after our 10 am deadline on Thursday. Participation in class activities (such as this one) form part of that assessment. A breakdown of what midterm grades are is here.

Participation Activity

(Due before 10 am on Thursday, Oct. 29)

Use the instructions above to comment on your peers’ work in your assigned group. This is the same activity you had last Thursday. Remember to check back to see if a member in your group has added their work late. How will I assess your participation? At 10 am this morning (Tuesday), I will assess who has participated since Thursday, either in a comment or by posting work. At 10 am on Thursday, I will look again and tally both posts and comments for a full peer review. Those who have already participated by posting or commenting, have already done part of the Participation Activity for Thursday. Remember to check back to see if other group members have posted before Thursday.

This assignment is important! I want to see what you are doing so far. This is why I am giving you extra time.
