Awa: How Drugs Affect

Drugs have been a very difficult topic to discuss in the United States. Drug is a chemical substance used by humans for some particular reasons such as preventing diseases or forgetting problems. There are two types of drugs medicinal and recreational. Medicinal drug is a drug that can be used by humans and animals to cure disease but with the approval of the doctor while a recreational drug known as illicit drug is a drug used by people without any medical justification There are many debates going all over on whether drugs should become legal or remain illegal. The discussion on drugs didn’t start now, it started back in 1970 when President Richard M.Nixon started the war on drugs. The war on drugs was based on regulating the use of drugs and punishing those who take and use big drugs illegally. This war on drugs came with many issues such as politics and racial. At the time, black people were most targeted by this law and most of them became imprisoned. The population of black people behind bars grew very quickly and led to mass incarceration. Africans Americans are more likely to get arrested than white people. Afro-Americans made up about 34% of the prisoner population in 2014. The problem with mass incarceration is the fact that it affects the government as they spend 81 billions of dollars on prison prisoners per year. Moreover, some states have started to legalize certain drugs such as Marijuana. Certain states such as Washington, Vermont, Maine have made Marijuana legal for purchase and for medical purposes. States like New York are still discussing whether they should make Marijuana legal for purchase and public use. The problem with making marijuana legal is the fact that some teenagers become really addicted to marijuana and more likely to consume it over and over again. They become addicted and more attracted to it and start doing bad in school. Many statistics show that many people died from overdoses. About 70,237 drugs users died from overdoses in 2017.

In this article, the authors explain that marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug in the United States. Some states legalized the use of marijunana. California was the first state that passed Medical Marijuana Laws. There are two types of drugs medical and recreational. A recreational drug known as illicit drug is a drug used by people without any medical justification. A medicinal drug is a drug that can be used by humans and animals to cure disease but with the approval of the doctor. All drugs have different effects and also some of them might affect  the brain and human behavior. However the used marijuana has been affecting many people mostly the adolescents and adults because adolescents and young adults constitute a large proportion of the US population. Approximately 60 millions of the US population are in the 12 and 25 years age range. However, the use of drugs don’t only affect the human brain also it can cause disease like cancer. Drugs are the number one cause of cancer and of death from cancer; There is no safe level of drug use. It is most commonly known for causing lung cancer and makes up 80% of lung cancer deaths.Young adult males who use marijuana and began their use during adolescence are at risk for an aggressive form of testicular cancer

This article shows that many people around the world are using illegal drugs mostly in the united states. Many people are using marijuana without any prescription and the adolescent and the adult have the highest risk for the marijuana use. However, the use of marijuana has also affected the human brain as they use more drugs there brain will  become more damaged. Adding what the author said young people use a lot drugs they are the one who used more drugs than the old people meaning that as the population increased the number of drugs users increased so if the drugs is legalized, many people can have a damaged brain because they will not control the amount of drugs they use. Also that smoke can cause many diseases including cancer. The young people have more chances to get cancer from the drug because they use a lot of drugs. In addition drugs are very harmful in society and the word causes many problems and it can destroy many young people’s life by damaging their brain.

“ In 2015, 8.3% of the US population aged 12 years and older used marijuana in the past month; 16.4% of adolescents aged 12–17 years used in lifetime and 7.0% used in the past month”

“Typical adverse effects include impaired short-term memory, cognitive impairment, diminished life satisfaction, and increased risk of using other substances”

Throughout this article “Am I gonna get in trouble for acknowledging my will to be safe?”: Identifying the experiences of young sexual minority men and substance use in the context of an opioid overdose crisis”  by Trevor Goodyear, Caroline Mniszak, Emily Jenkins, Danya Fast, and Rod Knight I came up with an analyzation of the effects of overdose, and the negative impact it had opon not only the population but also the emotion of the user. Through the text the author repeatedly states how in the experiment constructed The user felt like Fentanyl really scared him. And how he experienced shivers.  The author uses pathos which was their way of attracting the reader with the user’s overdose using emotion. He also puts emphasis on how the user was highly frightened by the effect of it. As opposed to the emotions being used the author also explains how Accidental overdose severely impacted north america’s population. According to the text North America and other parts of the globe are in the midst of a public health emergency related to opioid overdoses and a contaminated illicit drug supply. In Canada, approximately 4000 people died from an opioid overdose in 2017—a 33% increase in overdose deaths from 2016. This shows how regions of canada had a negative impact of the crisis of overdose. This overdose crisis has been proven to affect the expectancy of birth and also had a effect on(2SLGBTQ+) people as well as it does for heterosexual man and how it was dependable and fatal for both.

This article shows how many people died from overdose and how it affects their emotions. The overdose killed a lot of people, mostly the young people. Every year the number of deaths increases. In addition, use of drugs didn’t only increase the rate of death. It also has some serious consequences every year, thousands of people lose their life by drug addiction. Many people who are losing their life from overdose are using illegal drugs. If the government legalises drugs many more overdose will produce because the drug users have more freedom, so they can use drugs anytime without controlling the amount of drugs they consume. Meaning that as we legalize drugs it will make people’s lives harmful.

“approximately 4000 people died from an opioid overdose in 2017—a 33% increase in overdose deaths from 2016”

“At a population level and as a consequence of the overdose crisis, life expectancy at birth has now declined in BC—after experiencing annual increases from 2000 to 2013—by 0.38 years from 2014 to 2016

The war on drugs was when the government stopped illegal drug use by increasing penalties. The war on drugs began in 1971 in the U.S, launched by President Richard Nixon. The government started to penalize people to stop selling illegal drugs. mass incarceration started In fact, the United States has locked up a large population in federal and state prisons.. Most of the people who used drugs are the one who are committing most of the dangerous crimes. Many people that are locked up in prisons, most all of them were using drugs. The numbers of prisoners increased every year because of drug addiction. However african arrests totaled 663,03 more than arrests for all violent crimes combined. While the drug war affects Americans of all races, African Americans are overwhelmingly impacted and disproportionately incarcerated for possession and distribution of illegal drugs. Comparing drug arrest rates between Blacks and Whites reveals the racialized nature of America’s drug war.

In the article, the author tells us how drug users commit c crimes. The more they use drugs the more they commit  crimes. It increased the rate of prisoners because every year the number of prisoners increased also he mentioned that the number of users of black peoples is higher than the other races.

“ In at least fifteen states, African Americans are admitted to prison on drug charges at a rate from twenty to fifty-seven times greater than that of White men”

“The war on drugs is not only a public failure but also a political fraud. Instead of eliminating dangerous drugs and dealers, the drug war has destroyed countless African Americans’ educational opportunities, right to vote, ability to receive welfare, and overall capacity to pursue the “American dream.”

To conclude, illegal drugs are killing too many people and also as people use drugs and become addicted. They start making crimes every year, the rate of overdose and crimes increases because of drugs. Overall in this research paper i learn many things i learn the different kind of drugs that people are using which are  recreational drug known as illicit drug is a drug used by people without any medical justification and medicinal drug is a drug that can be used by humans and animals to cure disease but with the approval of the doctor. Many people are using drugs, mostly the young people used drugs. Many people got arrested for the use of drugs, mostly the black people. While white people are using a lot of drugs and committing crime they don’t get arrested. The number of black people that got arrested is higher than the number of white people. What surprised me in the research was that many adults and adolescents are using drugs; they are the one that used most of the drugs. They take a lot of risk while they use it. They can’t control the amount of drugs they use and that can lead them to make crimes. However after the research paper i don’t change my mind because when the government legalize the use of drugs many bad things can happen. So the people need to know how the drugs can affect them. Another thing that I learned from this research paper is that overdose has severely impacted North America’s population. This topic is really important to me because the drugs are destroying many people’s lives. Some people have depression. This is why the government should not legalize the use of drugs; it will affect a lot of people as they use drugs, more death and incarceration will produce. This why the government should not legalize the use of drugs. It will affect a lot of people as they use drugs and more death and incarceration will produce. I expected to find in the research that when the drugs legalize the number of deaths the mass  incarceration will also reduce but that was not the case. It was the opposite: the number of deaths and mass of incernation increased.
