Participation Activity

(Due before 10 am, Sept. 1 for Participation Activity Credit)

  • First, read this post to learn how to use our OpenLab Discussion Board
  • Write an entry on our OpenLab Discussion Board, using the instructions below.

Discussion Board Title:Ā Being a New Online Student

Discussion Board Task:Ā  This session’s discussion board task asks you to write three short paragraphs about your feelings about being an online student using the structure in the bulleted list below. Remember, you are not alone in this experience! For this reason, you will also respond to a question presented by peer who went before you on the discussion board and finish with a new question for the peer who goes after you. Below is the suggested format for your post. There is also an example on the discussion board.

  • In your first paragraph,Ā state your name and describe how youā€™re feeling about this course as we get started. Be honest. Everyone is uncertain, maybe that is what you wish to explore. Or, maybe you are excited! Or frustrated!
  • In your second paragraph, identify one of the ten tips in Reading 1: Tips for Online Student Success that you will Ā implement and explain why you chose that tip. How does this relate to you?
  • In your third paragraph, respondĀ to the question asked by the person who wrote on the discussion board just before you. Responding might mean offering a possible answer to the question or sharing insights or similar feelings or concerns you may have as a new student yourself.Ā End your third paragraph and your discussion board response with a question about this shared, online Ā college experience for the person who follows you.

Remember, you are encouraged to read your peers’ previous responses and can refer to ideas your peers have posted in addition to answering the question asked just before yours. Try to refer to your peers by name. You can also edit your own post after you have published if it is still before the board closes.

To receive Participation Activity Credit:Ā post your response on this board before 10 am, Tuesday, Sept. 1.
