ARCHITECTURE LICENSE: YES OR NO?

Ā  Ā  Ā In my opinion becoming a licensed architect would be very beneficial. Although, I am still debating on working to open my own firm, I think if I had the opportunity to open it I would. By having my license not only will I be prepared for this possibility but also it can bring many advantages. Achieving to be a registered architect would be a great accomplishment and one of my goals to be complete. As a registered architect, Iā€™d have the opportunity to be more involved in design work. It would also be a sense of respect, not to feel superior to others but so others donā€™t feel superior to me for not being licensed. Being a woman architect will be hard enough but having a better title could help me and boost my image with others. Iā€™m not keen on having to take so many e long exams but the idea of being able to have my license would be worth it. In some situations, a registered architect is paid more and have a higher status in a firm. I could become a principal architect and be could have more chances of being able to design and supervise the design and development of a building. This can all be harder job but I donā€™t want to give up without trying.

Architecture license Yes or No

As of now , I do want to become a license Architect. I want to be able to have my own firm andĀ  design my own drawings when it comes to working with clients. I feel like Architecture is a competitive career and by becoming a license architect , it will open more doors for meĀ  when applying for jobs or when starting my own firm. I will also like to learned the constructionĀ  side within this career. I am the type of person that likes learning how everything is put together from drawing on a piece of paper to on -site work .The reason why there is a small doubt in my answer is because what if, while I am working on my hours towards my license I find something that interest me and will led me in a different path inside this field that doesn’t require a license. Who knows, but my main focus now is working towards my license.

Architect: Yes or No?

There was a point in my life I heavily debated if continuing my education to become an RA was worth it. I was transferring from Queensborough community college with an associate in architectural technology. Problem was none of my design classes went through transferred to NYCCT. I was worried if I was wasting time in school where I could be working. I wasnā€™t in a position I couldnā€™t find a job because I have connections in the industry, but I asked myself is that as far as Iā€™ll go? Being a registered architect for me is more then just a job its an accomplishment. That certification validates all my hard work and opens even more avenues to me. Before I always thought ill just be a General contractor one day and thatā€™s it. But why stop there? Why not be the guy who designs and builds his structures. Some people enjoy a comfortable life and that is 100% fine. Personally, I want to see exactly how far I can go and push myself so I wont ever have the opportunity to sit in regret and say, ā€œI could have done thatā€. Why not dream big and see where life take you even if its halfway around the world?

Dream Job

Day by day as I progress through school, becoming an architect becomes more realistic. Architecture being such a unique field where it branches off into so many different fields, youā€™re wondering where in tree of architecture you want to be. For me a big ideology of mine is legacy. After you perish what is left to keep your name alive? For me creating & designing a building would be a means to the goal of staying relevant through time. Iā€™m not solely perusing architecture for this, but I love buildings. Since childhood, Iā€™ve grown up in the construction industry. I have a deep respect and appreciation for this industry and what it has provided for me.

Furthermore, my dream job is to have my own design build firm. As mentioned before, I want to design buildings and be able to say, ā€œIā€™ve built that buildingā€. For most thatā€™s enough but I also love numbers. Working in a general contracting firm I had the opportunity to see what goes behind the scenes. I enjoyed the number crunching, bargaining, and overall contact I had with so many different people from all over the construction field. A design build firm lets me enjoy both heads of the coin, not to mention the money from that would be astounding.

Additionally, I too would like to take my skills and use it for the better of the world. Specifically, I would like to have a hand in the development of Pakistan (my home country). Many villages have depressing quality of shelter which I feel I can fix. Also, Pakistan is titled as a third world country. With recent progression of politics, the country is on track to progression. I want to be apart of that movement, bringing the country ways of building into modern times.

Architect? Yes or No?

Thinking about becoming a licensed architect is a great question and something Iā€™ve pondered on for a while. In the path Iā€™m heading I want to become a licensed architect because it brings on a responsibility and commitment in the career of architecture that one experiences prior this achievement. Plus, I would want to possibly work on my own projects or even be able to sign those drawings off with my own signature, making architecture feel more serial. Becoming a licensed architect will tell my employer that I have the experience to take on huge future responsibilities. In my opinion having my license will give me the opportunity to express my designs through the forms I make or even the architectural language I establish around a community. Everyone has a unique style to architecture, so why not make it become real. Architect? Yes.

Dream Job

Throughout elementary, teachers would ask the kids what they wanted to be when they grow up. During that time, it seemed that most of the kids wanted to be architects, nurse, and teachers, while I had a dream to become a mechanic. It didnā€™t take long to convince me that I wanted to be architect. I enjoyed drawing, crafting and designing, which I figure I would fit the picture of aiming to be an architect. During my middle school and high school years I started to grasp some sort of an idea what an architect is. Not until college, I learn there so many branches to architecture and a whole process to get a structure complete.
Personally, Iā€™m glad I didnā€™t change majors. Looking into the future, my dream job, would be working as a license architecture in a firm. Able to designing all kinds of buildings and having to travel to different countries for meetings. Currently Iā€™m unclear to how to get there. In general, the only plan I have is get accepted to an internship and after graduation, work in a firm for a couple of years and if necessary, go back to school and then prepare my self for the license exam.

Dream Job

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Picking a position in architecture for me is a very broad topic because as mentioned in the article by Archdaily completing a degree is an obstacle and moving further it will pay off in different ways. When I first started to learn anything about architecture, I didnā€™t really know much about it because I mainly focused on Illustration art or graphic design topics before. Furthermore, once I got into the architecture field and started to connect with people I started to think of what positioned I envision myself in. So, to answer the question I would see myself focusing on Urban Planning or Urban Design because the work in architecture Iā€™ve seen in Landscape Architecture has caught my attention. Plus, sustainably is important to me in my opinion because it seems that developing green spaces or incorporating nature into a translated form of architecture that can possibly shape the years ahead is becoming something more significant for society. The building industry is big with many branched out connection careers but for me Urban Planning is one of the things I see myself working as.

In Urban Planning I also intend to get my masterā€™s degree in Landscape Architecture, so I could learn more about this area/field. Now I wonā€™t leave out my fabrication background because it will be a waste, so I want to work as a side or a main position job in anything involving fabrication in the architectural field. This involves CNC milling with wood, Material testing for a firm project, fabricating custom furniture, etc. I enjoy fabricating since there is a lot of engaging taking place when working with people or literally working with materials. In my opinion I would like a position in a firm to work as a fabricating or model making position because I feel like you can step away from the digital space (AutoCAD, Revit and Rhino) and engage more of the hands-on activities in architecture which I enjoy. So overall, Iā€™m trying to build my experiences in architecture in Urban Planning or Fabrication to potentially work in a firm which is my future goal.

Dream job

When I was in middle school , I was often asked what I wanted to become when I get older. My response to that question will always be ” I want to become anĀ  Architect and be able to design and build my own house”. Attending NYCCT ,I didn’tĀ  have any background knowledge on architecture or theĀ  different programs they used. My first two semesters were really hard because I wasn’t sure if ArchitectureĀ  was the right major for me. With the help of professor and classmates I was able to learn the different software, and began to get more interested inĀ  Architecture.Ā  This four years , I’ve learned with a Architecture degree they are many different careers that you can purse.Ā  With this said ,whats my next move ?

After I graduate I want to start focusing more in becoming a landscape architect. I want to be able to create and design outdoor landscapes, and public areasĀ  were people can interact and come together.Ā  I will alsoĀ  like to get an internshipĀ  in a small firm because it will allow me to learn more than a larger firm , and get the the feel of how an Architecture firmĀ  really works. My end goal nowĀ  is to work in a firm and be part of projects that will get built, and be able to say that I was part of it.My future goal is to be able to design and build my own house.

Dream Job-Kevin Carrillo

Since I was young, I’ve always been interested in the design & construction field. I always enjoyed watching how different elements were brought together to form massive structures. In my head, I would always look up at those tall buildings and think to myself that one day I would design such structure. I was always interested on the hands-on design projects in high school, but they were more focused on the engineering aspect. However, I was always interested in the design process. I liked the idea of starting something from scratch and build on from it to complete a finished product. Here at NYCCT I learned that architecture is more than focusing on the beauty aspect of a facade. I’ve learned that architecture means to take into consideration various different aspects of a site and fully develop it to generally solve a problem. I enjoy studying Architecture as it not only allows us to learn from past world history and design methods, but to also push towards new and innovative technology that is beneficial to our planet (green /LEED) designs, while at the same solving problems that will benefit people.

As for my dream job, I would like to first continue my education after completing my bachelor’s degree and work towards my Master’s degree in one of the following: Architecture, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture,Ā  or possibly in the Construction Management-related field. As for work; I’d currently like to get an internship or part time/full time job at a small firm as this will allow me to learn more about the procedures taken in the AEC field. Although, it could be more work compared to a larger firm, I would like to get basic knowledge of different type work done in an actual architectural project to fully understand every step from beginning to end. eventually, I would like to work for a bigger firm and possibly work on projects all over the world. I would like to gain as much experience possible and in the future take the ARE and hopefully become a Registered Architect someday. Maybe someday open my own firm, but there is a vast amount of work to be done; therefore I’m working on learning as much as I can now in the present to eventually make everything easier in the future!

Assignment # 1: Dream job

In the building industry Architects often times provoke different reactions through their designs. By using their creativity they develop aesthetics of spaces along with the functionality of a building. Nowadays Architects are slowly losing control on their ability to lead the direction of projects Ā in the urban environment. As the building industry puts a lot of restriction on Architects when working on projects with clients, contractors and subcontractors. It is also common knowledge that the net value of architectural services in projects are value at a very small percentage, which puts architects near the bottom of the financial structure in the AEC industry. This is one of the reasons I aspire to become a ā€˜Architect as Developerā€™ which is a new practice that is emerging. Which allows architects to have the ability to become the owner, by eliminating the client and the general contractor from the design and building process. Therefore the Architect is able to take full control of the project and have more freedom. This allow the architect to create better city environments for the community as well as achieve substantial financial compensation. This dream job also motivates you to learn new skills like understanding project analysis, construction techniques, acquiring building permits and controlling budgets. This is also a reason why I am interested in doing construction management which will help me acquire a lot more experience in the field. This job carries a lot of responsibility and understanding of the building industry that when also incorporating the design aspect it creates more areas for development potential for the people in the communities.
