I want to teach my audience to be aware of what kind of career you choose and capitalize on opportunities that present themselves. I would also like to teach anyone who decides to get in the industry to have a backup plan or another trade skill. I will be discussing the effect the pandemic had on restaurant employees in the beginning, and it ended up giving them a chance to reflect on their time spent in the kitchen. I think people interested in cooking should have trade skills or a backup plan in case there’s another pandemic you wonât be faced with the same problems of not being able to work because it’s not an essential job. When I went to culinary school I was told that being in the industry would allow me to always have a job because people need to eat, however that was not the case when Covid-19 was introduced to the states. As a cook who was fired because of Covid-19 I had a lot of time to reflect on the career I had chosen because I couldn’t work and everything was shut down. After reflecting on everything about the industry I decided to go back to school to pick up a new trade that treats its workers better and is more consistent. Many restaurant workers decided it was time to change careers during the pandemic and now the restaurants have a shortage of staff. I chose to pick this topic because I worked in the industry for several years observing these restaurants operate and mistreat workers. My project was about how restaurants adapted to the pandemic. I didnât discuss the environment the workers had to come back to or how much it took them to adapt. Although restaurants now have take out, curbside pickup, delivery systems and doing well they havenât been able to retain their old employees. I came up with this idea because culinary arts is not a good choice for a long career. I think you can use that same energy for something more rewarding and I do not recommend it. My research question was âHow has Covid-19 affected the restaurant industry and how will they adapt?â my new title will be âThe Restaurant Employees Decisionâ.
For an opinion essay (an opinion editorial essay)–you need a more clear title that has an angle. âHow the Pandemic Affected Restaurant Workersâ — this doesn’t really say what your message is.
You write: I want to teach my audience that you should have skills and experience in other careers in case thereâs another pandemic in the future. So what is your message and how is this coming out of your research? Say this in clearly and briefly in a 1-or 2-sentence statement.
I am wondering: Will you be arguing that young ppl with an interest in cooking SHOULD NOT GO INTO THE RESTAURANT WORLD? or should think hard an think twice? Are you discouraging ppl from entering the restaurnat world? Will you include some personal narrative elements? Some story telling from your own experience.
Then in this proposal, you need to explain how your message connects to your research. Explain how your message comes out of your research. So how did you move from researching how the restaurant industry adapted to the pandemic to now deciding to write an opinion essay on restaurant workers and their changing work options or their changing careers. I mean your letter topic is quite different from your research work, so explain how you came to this idea. And explain exactly what your message is.
Actually I am not clear what your message is, what your angle is. You have not stated it in this proposal.
