Umm Kalthoum overlooking Cairo slum

“Um Kalthoum overlooking a Cairo Slum” taken by David Haberlah

From the photographer “In the poor Coptic Quarter of Cairo some artist supplied the residents of an illegal slum with colours and materials to beautify their houses. Umm Kalthoum is still the most popular female singer in Egypt (although she died 30 years ago!) and had been chosen by one inhabitant to keep her eyes on the community.”
