Portait Basics

IMG_0741I enjoyed taking this picture thoroughly. I love the way the light ,which you can tell, came from the left side casting a nice shadow on the left side of his face. Came out very successful.

IMG_5621the lighting in this image is beautiful, the shadow of the image is soft. the backlight allows there to be  lighter amounts of tones allowing the whole image to glow. the key light allows the image to be in focus since it’s direct light. the fill allows everything to be glowing.

LL4 – Portrait Basics

IMG_0790

A three light portrait is done by a person facing a 3/4 view where the photo captures the three techniques. This will allow the broad, rembrandt and short lighting to take place. Broad Lighting is basically when part of the face thats closest to the camera illuminates. Short lighting is opposite of broad lighting where part of the face thats further illuminates. Rembrandt lighting is the key light which is when the light is in front .

This photo is successful to me because the use of background lighting is great. Also the “triangle” is captured in this photo as well. The use of space is fabulous almost seems as if its a class photo. Overall this picture taken by my group was very successful.

I think this portrait is successful because of her happy expression and the back lighting, the light in the back makes her “pop” out of the frame. Her face is side lit so that the left side is bright and the right side has more shadows. I think that maybe, when taking this photograph, we should have made the light a little bit softer and more even on both sides. But other than that I really like it.

Portrait Basics

IMG_7486    The key light brings out the light and darkness of the portrait. Also it brings out the triangle that’s in the models face. Fill light makes the persons face lighter. The background light makes the person to not look like it’s close to the background.

The short light makes the face of the person more softer and calmer. The broad light in the left makes the left side of his face more fierce, and mysterious. The background light gives a high contrast. Also it makes the person seem far from the background.

Portrait – Sillyness

Sillyness

I really enjoyed taking this picture. We tried something a little different in order to get an expression out of the model. We shouted out words and the model was asked to express the word, mine was “silly”. i really enjoyed the expression in this photo as well as the lighting.

_MG_4117I like this picture because the lighting on the face has full light but it is not overly bright. It is also a great picture because you can see the person’s bright eyes and it appeals to the picture since it stands out.

Key light is to create a shadow on the face that makes a triangle. Fill light is to reflect the main light to the face to lighten the shadows. Background light is to create a distance between the model and the background.

This photo is successful because of the expression of happy. Also the triangle created by the main light is really defined.

The key light added a really powerful light on the left side of the subject’s face. The background light adds a brighter tone to the background and allow the subject’s back to glow, allowing the the subject to get background high lights. The fill allows the shadows to be softened, and allow light to bounce off back onto the subject. This image I found the most powerful because the side of the subject’s face is super dark. It makes it mysterious.

Week 4 – Portraits

IMG_7389

A traditional 3 light portrait is done by using key light, fill light and background light. Key light is used to bring out the main darks and lights in the portrait. It was used to make the triangle in the models face. Fill light is used by the reflector to lighten the shadows. Background light is made by using a light to reflect the backdrop. It’s used to separate the background from the model.

I chose this photo because it not only uses the shadow technique that we learned today, but it has a great fill and tightness. I love that the focus is on his eyes, and most of his face is soft, not sharp. The shadow and highlight is also great. It creates a strong triangle.
