Final Project/Paper Assignment

Here is your final project and paper assignment for the course, both due Thursday, May 23, 2013

1. Final Project: Re-envisioning A Technical Writing Document

Choose a piece of paper-based technical writing — a set of instructions, a how-to guide, a support document, a document that provides a summary of a larger and more complex technical paper — and create a new version of it that puts it into digital form. Your new document should embody the following principles:

1. Interactivity

2. Usability

3. CRAP design principles

4. Socially connected networks

Your redesigned tech-writing project should be posted on the course blog (or linked to from it) as a post with the tag “finalproject.” You should also include photos or scans of the original so that the view can compare it with your re-invented version (you do not have to own the original — you can find a scanned version on the web).

2. Write a short 2-3 page paper explaining your transformations, justifying them with references to our course texts and to other reputable tech-writing resources that you can find on the web. This paper should be emailed to Prof. Gold at mgold@citytech.cuny.edu

Please email me with any questions you might have.

And please update your google doc to ensure that ALL of your course assignments are listed there.

Thanks for a great semester!

Final Project

Hi all,
For my final project I filmed a tutorial on how to clean vinyl records with a specialized record-cleaning system. Its original manual (which I could not locate) provided hardly any information on how to properly clean a record so I felt a video tutorial in this particular case would be much more useful than any paper-based manual.
The tutorial’s been uploaded to YouTube and should soon be viewable here.
In the meantime, feel free to watch a mobile version of it here.

Wish you all good grades in the course and enjoy the summer!

Better Safe Than Sorry: How to install a Carbon monoxide alarm/detector!

Better be safe than sorry. For my Final Technical Writing Project I will show you how to install an important device called a Carbon Monoxide Alarm/detector.  During the period from 1999 to 2004, an average of 439 persons died annually from unintentional, non–fire-related CO poisoning, and the national average annual death rate was 1.5 per million persons. However, rates varied by demographic subgroup, month of the year, and state. Rates were highest among adults aged > 65 years, men, non-Hispanic whites, and non-Hispanic blacks. The average number of deaths was highest during January. Among the states, Nebraska had the highest reliable CO mortality rate. These findings indicate that improved population-based prevention measures, including educating the public about the dangers of CO exposure, are needed at the state and national levels. With this the FDNY requires that a Carbon Monoxide alarm/detector must be in every home. Enjoy!!

Edber Bailon Final Project

For my final project I decided to make a video about one of my favorite games Street Fighter 4 and how to play with some of the main characters.  I used a variety of tools from the Adobe Master Collection CS6 and YouTube. It was very challenging and time consuming but I am happy with the results.  Next time I will use direct video feed from the game system to improve the visual clarity of the video. The paper portion has been sent to Prof. Gold. If you would like to see the paper send me an email or if you have any questions leave a comment. Enjoy your vacation everyone! Final Project

For every time i have had a new cable box and/or a new T.V. set up in my house i have always had a tough time programming the Cablevision/IO remotes to be able to control my TV. The little instructions are always confusing and always seem to be clustered up. But being giving a chance to  make a set of instructions of my own is just great. Below you will be able to compare the set of instructions given by the cable company versus my new and improved set of instructions. Enjoy!

Below are scanned images of the instructions given by the cable company.

Instructions

Instructions 2

Instructions 3

And below will the set of instructions i made to program your remote to your T.V.

How to Program Your Remote

Enjoy!

Please leave your feedback thanks.

Helmet for Haircut

This is my final Project

There is a Hair, Bear and Body Trimmer also people use it to give haircut.

Part identification

Switch: slide up to turn on, slide down to turn off. Charge Indicator Lamp: Lights when the unit is connected with the adaptor to an AC power source for charging. Main Blade: A precision 39 mm-wide blade which can be used with the comb attachment. Quick Adjust Dial: turn the dial to a higher setting to raise or lower the comb attachment to the desired length (between 1 and 20 mm). The comb attachment is locked in position when the switch is set to “1”. Trimming length is from 1mm to 20mm.  The actual hair length may be longer than the set trimming high. Comb Attachment for Hair:  Use this to control the trimming length. Moving and Stationary blade and Cleaning Laver: Push this lever to remove bits of hair caught between the stationary blade and moving blade. Blade Block: Release to remove the blade block from the housing to clean or replace the blade. Finishing blade of Mini Trimmer Use this when finishing the edges and trimming the moustache. Trimmer guide of Mini Trimmer Slide it up when finishing blade is used. Adaptor Use this connect the trimmer to AC power source for recharging. Oil Lubricate the space at 5 spots between the stationary and moving blade with oil after and moving blade with oil after use.

Cleaning Brush

Operation

Charging and Cordless trimming: When charging the beard/hair trimmer for the first time or when it has not been in use for more than 6 months, charging it for activation for at least 16 hours before use. If it seems only loose speed it can be charged in 8 hours.

Trimming of beard

Place the angled face of the comb against the skin and cut the beard by moving the trimmer in all directions to obtain a uniform cut . With curly facial hair, the comb attachment may not cut all of the hair. In case, remove the comb attachment and use conventional comb to draw out the remaining uncut hair. When shaping the beard, remove the comb attachment. Place the angled edge against skin and make the border of the bear even.

Now I suggest making a Helmet for hair cut.

Generally people use beard or mustache trimming in the barber shop for cutting hair. I think the makers could make that machine in other way only for hair cut. They could incorporate the hair cut instrument with helmet. They could put the blades inside the helmet. Therefore, to use it, people would just wear it as regular helmet, then press the bottom commend. In five minutes it could cut all the hair at same the level. That would be easy to use. Since the machine would be pre-set before wearing it. The users could set up for  any size they like to cut their hair. For alimentation electric, Plus the electric power, they could make it to use two or three batteries the type CR2032 also. But they should increase the power of the batteries for the good quality of service and the long-life of batteries. So, people wouldn’t not need to charge they machine every time. That would help people who leave in campaigns. Because I know there are some villages in Africa for example the people have no access to the electricity. However, they want to have a  haircut too.  If of all of these people know there is helmet for haircut. It is easy to use and easy to get. I think no many people would be going to go the barber shop for getting a haircut.  They will buy a helmet haircut machine one and use it as many times as long as they have it. Also, people don’t have to learn how to do the haircut. Therefore anyone can open the haircut shop as long as he/she can have the helmet haircut machine.
