Shapiro Eliza “Schools in NYC fully reopen” The New York Times.  September,17,2021.www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2021/09/13/nyregion/nyc-schools-reopening.amp.html

SUMMARY

Almost 1 millions students have started to go back to school.  Many people don’t trust that school are safe right now. Almost 600,000 had decided to learn from home instead of in school last year but this year that option isn’t available. Families want to wait and get their children the vaccine before they send them to school.Mayor bill de Blasio thought that the reopening of schools would be a triumphant moment hit the delta variant has complicated things and had made it harder for parents and students.  Parents want their children to interact with other student students o improve their communication skills but, in schools the students are being separated and out in groups.sone parents have trained their children to keep their maid in at all times so they feel confident that their children are safe In school. In the article a student named Nate Hernandez says “ online classes have made him feel sad and lonely”.  Families are required to fill out health screening forms every day before entering the school. I trust this article because  it isn’t showing any bias. It’s showing both sides. It’s talking about about the negative effect of reopening schools and how they are unsafe and it’s talking about the positive effect and how schools are safe.

ANALYSIS

This article was written by Eliza Shapiro. she got degree from Columbia university. She served as editor in chief at Columbias news blog.  she joined the New York Times in 2018, and attended private school in Manhattan and Brooklyn. The intended audience of this article is students, parents, mayor, school officials and the government.  This was written to inform us of what’s going in schools and how it’s affecting everyone. This article is worth reading because its very important for us to know this information, in order to say safe. Also this is very important and is a very informative article.

RESPONSE

Before I started reading this article, the only reason I chose this article was because I needed a topic and wasn’t that sure what to chose. but after I read this article I understood how important this information was and its a great ting that I choose this article/topic. I was very surprised to find out that 600,000 families kept their children home for remote learning last year. I find it shocking that even though most people don’t want to send their children to Schoo, the mayor is basically forcing them to go back to school. I believe that the mayor should not have reopened schools so quickly.  This article had a lot of good information that makes me believe that if someone reads this, they will agree that schools reopening was a mistake. I trust this article because it isn’t showing any bias. It’s showing both sides. It’s talking about about the negative effect of reopening schools and how unsafe they are  and it’s talking about the positive effect and how schools are safe and how they are unsafe.

Shamus, Kristen “https://amp.freep.com/amp/8422532002” Detroit Free press. October,15,2021

SUMMARY

students who attended K-12 schools with mask requirements in August and September had lower rates of coronavirus transmission than those at schools without mandates.  A lot of studies have proven that masking helps prevent transmission.Virus spread was 62% higher in school districts with no mask rules. The rate of infection was 45 in every 100,000 by late September. Wearing masks in schools has proven beneficial and has protected the children and teachers. A study proved that high schools with no mask mandate has 3.5 times the higher outbreaks than schools with a mask mandate. Another study conducted in 520 countries across the world showed that without mask mandates the transmission rates were double than what they were for mask mandated places. Whether to mandate masks in schools has become a huge issue with some people agreeing and some disagreeing. The CDC recommends wearing masks and it has been proven that they prevent transmission and protect everyone.

Unit 2 essay FINAL DRAFT

The divisiveness surrounding the Covid-19 vaccine mandates is creating a tense, unstable political and social climate in America. Everyone has their own opinion on Covid-19 and the changes that have come with it. A lot of these changes come in the form of rules or mandates that must be followed when in public settings. These public settings include places like schools, and workplaces. I believe these mandates should be respected as they are meant to keep people safe but many would disagree. So many have disagreed that they’ve attempted to bring these mandates to be challenged in court. Our society is strongly affected by these mandates so discussing them and the tensity they cause is very important to come together as a whole.

Schools are a place we send children to learn and make friends, schools are trusted to take care of these children and keep them safe. In “Justice Dept. Will Address ‘Disturbing Spike’ in Threats Against School Personnel.” by Erica Green, angry parents have made these schools a place of public disturbance because of their kids wearing mask in school. Wearing mask in public schools is a mandate that helped push for the schools to be reopened and make it a safer place for not only the students, but also the staff, and the families of both. The staff in these schools are getting threatened over these mandates. I feel as though parents should accept that these mandates are made to protect everyone, especially their children. It looks like to these angry parents, personal beliefs have become more important than the safety of their own children and families.

Its become a mandate that in most workplaces in our country, vaccination against Covid-19 is a requirement. In “Of Vaccine Mandates and Facing Reality.” by Paul Krugman, we learn that many are extremely unhappy with this requirement and feel that their personal rights are being obstructed. Many who are against vaccination have gone as far as quitting their jobs to avoid getting the vaccine. The alternative of weekly testing was implemented in many of these workplaces but ultimately has not been successful and many have resigned from their jobs. Personally, I was shocked to learn some are leaving jobs they have been in for a very long time over this. Of course this does not apply to every single workplace but all around America in different workplaces, People have decided to resign. This has shown me that some do not care so much about their own careers and ways of living, but respect their own values more. I respect people that have a strong sense of their own morality but when it not only puts you and the other people around you at risk, It should be considered that you should get vaccinated for the sake of your health and financial wellbeing.

The Covid-19 mandates have caused a lot of unrest both politically and socially, so much so that they are being tried in courts. Many question if it is constitutional to make these Covid-19 mandates, actual mandates. Jacob Gershman informed us on what is happening in his article “Covid-19 Vaccine Mandates Are Surviving Nearly All Court Challenges”. The mandates are surviving these lawsuits and court trials because the Biden administration has made these mandates as part of a state of emergency that deems them necessary. These mandates are rightfully so surviving as I agree that these mandates are only made to protect the publics health. The vaccines and mask are proven to have  helped decrease cases of Covid-19, everyone is entitled to have their freedom to have an opposing opinion but when there is fact to prove it helps, it should be taken seriously. The mandates are put in place to keep Covid-19 cases as low as possible and to keep everyone safe and healthy. The threat of Covid-19 is still very much out there and to not wear a mask or get vaccinated is a big risk to yourself and anyone you are around. The courts and the Biden administration have peoples health in mind as a main priority.

I strongly believe in all Covid-19 mandates. They would not be set in place if they were not necessary and proven to make everyday life safer for everybody. Mask should be required in schools, as should vaccines and mask be required and encouraged in workplaces. Every individual is entitled to their opinion but this is peoples health being put at risk. I hope the mandates continue to survive any challenges it faces in courts. When the health of every single person, of any age, is being put at risk of a very dangerous and often fatal disease, We should all put our differences aside and agree to do whatever necessary to keep ourselves and each other safe.

Summary : This article talks about a few art teachers, who have been art teachers for 50 or more years like Lois DeWitt, Joel Towers, among several others. It talks about the advantages and disadvantages of digital art and how there is a difference between being digitally native and learning how to learn online. All artists need to figure out eventually about digital art and how there are many ways to work with it. In addition, it also talks about the difference types of teachers these teachers have acquired overtime. According to the article it states “I have it all in my brain, and I want to share this,” said Ms. DeWitt, 72, in a telephone interview from her home in Wilmington, N.C. “Brick and mortar is hard — having a gallery and having a building — and the Internet is wonderful that way.” This can showcase that Ms. DeWitt does want to show what she has created in terms of her life and why she is passionate when it comes to digital art and why she wants to teach it.

The article also makes an effort talking about how these teachers know their subject. Lois DeWitt, in particular knows a whole lot about her subject of digital art and how she utilizes it. According to the article it states “So in 2008 she established a website — Free Online Art Classes — that now attracts about 15,000 visitors a month from places like Indonesia, Africa and Germany to courses that include instruction in watercolors, oil painting and “artful lighting.” ” This showcases that these teachers have had lots of experiences with digital art and it can prove that they are probably the more likely sources to learn inspiration about digital art. It can also be established that article 1 showcases differences of digital art when it comes to learn digitally, like native and online.

Analysis:

Response: If I met Robin Pogrebin, I would thank him for giving us the inspiration of this article. I would be happy that he took the time to write down the experiences he had with his teachers and pass them down to young artists who want to learn more about the world around them, especially when it comes to art. I also find some of the tips from other teachers to be intriguing and I think they are good pieces of advice he gives.

ARTICLE 2:A Digital Art Space.” The New York Times. June 22, 2012, https://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/24/nyregion/moma-art-lab-offers-a-digital-art-space-for-children.html?searchResultPosition=3

Summary: This article discusses about how digital art is portrayed. It showcases how art started out before digital art is made on computers and printers. It showcases how fun and interesting digital art can be for anyone at any age. In the article it does state “Art Lab uses drawing exercises to highlight the styles of artists in the museum’s collection. The app has six “activities,” for which it gives a brief introduction to some aspect of an artist’s style and then walks users through an exercise employing that style.” Art Lab is a fine example to showcase art styles and how they are made.

The article also discuses about different ways of digital art. It showcases how art is presented in different ways and even talks about how to share art with others and how send it to MoMa. According to the article it states “Once you have created something, it can be saved to your iPad’s camera roll, shared or sent to MoMA, which reserves the right to use it however it sees fit. All sharing options are turned off by default.” This proves that you can be comfortable showing your art to the world, especially digital art.

Analysis: Joshua Brustein wrote the article.

Response: If I met Joshua Brustein, I would thank for teaching people the benefits of digital art, and also asks him if there are other benefits of digital art, and also ask him, what are the disadvantages of digital art. I would want to ask him these to see the pros and cons of digital art. I would also ask him what his own inspirations are to see where he gets his own talent from.

ARTICLE 3: Zagrobelna, Monika. “Is Digital Art “Real” Art? Facts and Myths About Digital Creating” design.tutsplus.  September 30, 2014 https://design.tutsplus.com/articles/is-digital-art-real-art-facts-and-myths-about-digital-creating–cms-22010

Summary: This article talks about digital art and whether it can be considered real art. There are a lot of versions of art that are discussed here like sculpting, drawing, painting, digital art etc. It talks about digital art and what it’s about and how it is created. Digital Art is compared to regular art like drawing and painting, which can be done on digital art. In the article it showcases “Digital media will be everything that has a digital outcome, that is, “in the form of digits”. When you take a photo of your painting, it becomes digital too (of course, only the photo, not the physical original). That’s what links all digital creations—nothing more. We still can distinguish other categories here:” It also gives off a sense of uniqueness as unlike hand painting, digital painting can be done on the computer which is why it’s called digital art. According to the article is also showcases “Surprise! Aren’t they pretty similar? The only differences between them are associated with the features of the material used (paper, screen). Drawing lines, no matter where, is about the same skill! If you can’t draw on paper, don’t expect that a graphics tablet will change anything. It won’t lead your hand, it won’t make your lines clear, it won’t give you style. ” This proves that digital art is not that different to regular art.

Analysis: Monika Zagrobelna wrote the article. It is trustworthy as it talks about the comparing and contrasting digital art and regular art and also showcasing whether or not if the former is real art. The attended age could really be for anyone who is interested in art but it can be seen for mostly middle school art students or high school students that need tips in digital art and those who question whether it is real art or not.

Response: If I met Monika Zagrobelna, I would commend her for showcasing digital art and it’s uses for others. I am impressed about the comparisons she made to regular and I am rather interested on the way she showcased these examples. I think these are great ways to show off digital art to the public. I would like to ask her though, if she even has been inspired by digital art herself.

Multi Media 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RmGV5wALG0

Summary: This video talks about digital art and what it is all about for beginners. It talks about what you need to buy for it, the type of software, and the art itself which means what do you do and how do you get started with the art. In terms of hardware, it states “So your starting out, you want the cheapest thing in the world, no commitment.” Like a pen tablet. When it comes to software, there are many apps that can be used to be drawn in. The videos states “There are some great programs that are absolutely free, like Krita.org, Autodesk Sketchbook, and Medibang Paint Not Pro.” The article also discuses about art in general when it comes to what to create. The video states that there are many drawing tutorials  and there also many resources that can be utilized when it comes to making art. Sometimes you can teach yourself and practice with one app at a time in order to make the work.

Analysis: This video is trustworthy when in comes to talking about digital art for beginners and  the basic way on how to start it. It can be shown the person who created the video knew very well what they were talking about and their path and interest in digital art. As evident by the title, the attended audience is for beginners when it comes to digital art and how it is portrayed. It can be showcased that the video is geared more to people who never heard of digital art and want to try it out and believe it’s interesting. The tone is informative

Response: If I met the creator, I would commend them for the way they showcased these tips. I am impressed with the amount of tips and advice the video has given and I am interested in how the examples are shown. They look to be quite informative. I personally believe this video would be a great start to anyone that is new to digital art and wants to learn the ways of it.
