The lottery is a short story about a draw that takes place on June 27th. This draw lasts for about 2 hours, but for the towns with a bigger population, this draw takes place a day before and lasts for two days. At first, this draw might seem like a draw that takes place where the winner might get an amazing price like money, food, etc. However, as you get towards the end of the story you realize that unfortunately, this is not the case at all. The conductor of the lottery, Mr. Summers, made everyone get a piece of paper and have them unopened until everyone has received a paper of their own. Once everyone has obtained a paper, Mr. Summer has everyone open up their paper and see what they got. If your paper is blank, you are good to go, but if your paper has a black spot on it, you are the winner of the lottery. However, winning is not what you want to do. If you are the “winner” what happens is that you get stoned to death.
