Poem

Oh he dies dead of thy loneliness.

Quiet, Lonely and Empty

He try to emulate Happiness

But can tell the vacancy of himself

The sadness in his eyes

Empty.

When he is alone with thoughts .

He searches for ideas and thought but his thoughts are bare, clear but full of nothingness

Prompt: Good habits can improve our physical, emotional, and/or financial health. This semester, you’ve all sought to adopt new habits that will keep you strong in college. What habit would you tell an incoming freshman to adopt that you have also cultivated this semester?

Introduction:

Daily actions define a habit, and people’s habits define their lifestyle. Given that, it is important to build habits that are good for our physical, mental, and financial health. Having good habits can be very beneficial at all stages in life, especially as college students. What exactly are good habits? Managing time in a disciplined manner, going to the gym, budgeting money, and setting priorities are all examples of good habits or practices.

During my Fall 2021 semester at City Tech, I faced a lot of barriers but learned how to overcome them as well. One habit that I acquired, and which proved to be very beneficial was making quality time for each item on my daily agenda. Which means, when it was time to study, I would only focus on that. When it was time to work, or sleep or eat I would focus all my energy on that. As a result, I found myself feeling less overwhelmed. Moreover, it helped me avoid feeling “burnt out”. Another habit that I tried, and still am trying to create is managing my time better. I think it is crucial to have good time management skills. Waking up and going to sleep at a fixed time, eating at a fixed time, having a steady work and study schedule are all good practices to have. It will really help a college student excel.

I would advise an incoming freshman to acquire two habits. They are good time management skill and knowing what is more important or setting priorities straight. College can be very stressful, therefore having good time management skills can help with handling heavy workloads, and balancing between work and school. Outside of school, it helps to find a balance between social and academic life. Moreover, it will help a student find time to fit other activities into their days, for example: going to the gym, or for a hobby. Setting priorities straight is as important as time management skills. This is because a college student should learn to know what is more important at the moment and what is not. Distractions are always going to be there, however being aware of priorities can help a student stay in track.

College is an important part of a student’s life. It is a place to grow as a person, get an education, plan future goals, etc. Therefore, it is very important to have good habits in college, because it helps a student get through the 4 or 6+ years smoothly. Moreover, it builds character which help in the future with careers and social life. To sum it all up, I will repeat our actions become our habits and our habits are who we are.

FINAL ESSAY.

Prompt 1 Good habits can improve our physical, emotional, and/or financial health. This semester, you’ve all sought to adopt new habits that will keep you strong in college. What habit would you tell an incoming freshman to adopt that you have also cultivated this semester?

Letter to a Freshman.

Dear,  Incoming Freshman.

Coming to college can be extremely terrifying and especially lonely when its happening in your room so I hope this  letter can bring you some light and some comfort.  Here are some things I did and learned along the way that helped me and I hope that they can be useful to you.  Firstly take notes. Majority of your classes you can take notes online. You can take notes using google docs which automatically safes your work as you type. You should also take pictures of your notes might need, this will help you learn if you don’t have your books or computer with you.  I wouldn’t blame you if 50 percent of  your phone gallery was filled with pictures of lecture notes because mine was filled too. Secondly, approach each class and lecture with positivity and optimism, to be honest, a big problem was that I got in my head, I felt like I already failed the semester if I got a bad grade on a test or missed a few minutes of the lecture. This was really bad for my mental health and definitely didn’t help my grade, so take each class at time and don’t beat yourself up for a bad grade its okay, and its not the end of the world. Thirdly,  go get in some for of physical exercise, class are a lot longer in college and sitting all day is not healthy. You can try doing yoga, going for walking or even dancing, it really does help relieve stress and its a lot more fun that studying.  Try your hardest to turn in if not all but, most of your assignments are on time. One thing I would encourage you to do if you want to have more free time is to do your assignments days before, even if you cant finish an assignment start it, this is good because if you can ask the teacher for help if you are stuck on a problem. Regularly check your school email and blackboard, some teacher post homework on there and other things they might want you to read before class. Another thing that help me was asking questions in class especially if you are confused on a topic because, most likely someone else is probably also confused.  Create a group chat with your class,  this is helpful if you have questions you forgot to ask in class or re-explanation of problems you didn’t get.  One great skill I started was journaling . Journaling  is really good, and personally helped me stay more organized with my classes. It also help me express my feelings on literally anything.  Another thing that help we was keeping my room clean.  Having a clean room is beneficially and helps keeps your things organized easy to find.  Another important habit that helped me was limiting my phone usage, I know its really difficult, but I promise its worth it.  Limiting the amount you send on your device allows you to have more time with yourself and what’s around you.  Practice meditation. Meditation was really helpful really courage me to be more Intune with myself and were I am.  At last take your take and enjoy the journey, you only get to be a college freshman once.

Wednesday, December 13 2021– Free Write – Poem

For days I wonder…..when I can…..

For days I wonder…when it will be…..

Sometimes….I feel overworked.

Sometimes….I feel I need a break.

I work constantly to do work in school.

I work constantly to help my family.

I get exhausted very easily.

I get stressed very easily.

I just feel like I need a rest.

I just feel like I want a vacation.

Can I get a holiday?

Can I get at least a day off?

I love the holidays!

I love the days off!

I can be lazy.

I can have my reasons however.

I like my hobbies.

I also would like a break.

I am sometimes lazy.

I am a person who has those reasons however.

I can’t wait for whenever their is a holiday.

I can’t wait for relaxtion.

Many say I complain.

I have my reasons!
