Omega and Cindy
The components in used in this advertisement were many. Some were the juxtaposition of cindy crawford, the cropping of her photo, the feather around the edges, how washed out she looked, also how they laid out the entire ad.
Well’s description and critic of the ad also broaden the perspective of the viewers. A point she brought up was if this ad, or this idea of how society is, is it just illusionary, is it just fake?
” They accurately portray social relations which are illusory” (goldman 1992: 35) This is very accurate example of how advertising is changing the world in a good and bad way. The worse way of course is creating illusionary worlds where the viewer only sees whats in front of them, but not asking the more important questions that should be asked. That is what missing from society and that is the negative part bout advertising.
Cars and metaphors
In the poems “she being brand” and the poem “Coming home, Detroit” both do use car metaphors, but use them differently to achieve them in their own way. In the poem “she being brand” the poet decides to use getting a brand new car as a metaphor for sex to describe the bewilderment of actually getting a new car. Especially how the poet describes the whole endeavor, using innuendos to try to communicate to the audience without bluntly saying it.
In the poem “Coming home, Detroit” the poet uses the car as a metaphor of traveling. of vacuuming space in order for us to take a look at the visual details and not entirely the sound. I believe the poet does accomplish his ideas across. He is also describing what industry has done to the city of Detroit, where the pollution is at an all time high, how other people are being effected and how the car that you are using to go to work is also at fault, its the character’s fault as well.
Life and mortality
The painting creates a metaphor by using metaphorical objects that was easily translated by the audience in which she painted for. In the pieces displayed, the background are often very vague, and not important. They all have very concentrated palettes.
Hector uses the style by adding his own twist with it. Since his story was very similar to the style it was a very was adaption of the two. The work made by hector does have some links to the style in a very modern day relation and he uses the style correctly. For the image about “the creation” i believe that the photo was not heavy handed, but very slick in its execution.
Botany of desire
These opinions that we have just talked about is sadly true because now in days companies are taking over everything until they are just in complete control of our brains. But to think plants as software is a defining line to wether food is food, or just another commodity.
Most computer’s now in days need the software in order to function as well as us humans need food/produce in order to keep on living. What is worse is that one company is controlling all of the produce which leads to no competition which is bad for everyone.
To create an image for this, i see the potatoes are all in sleeping chambers like the movie, “The Matrix” and have the labels “mon santo” on the chamber.
Window or Mirror?
Szarkowski’s Mirrors and Windows thesis in my own words mean that there are multiple ways of interpretation, but also how photos are created.
I consider both could be windows. The 2nd image with the daughter i believe can be seen as a window because, who knows if this situation might have happened to someone else, or to at least very similar to it so it could be window. I also believe that it can be considered a mirror too. This photo also displays personal emotion displayed by the models inside of the set. With all of the pre chosen lighting and props that went along with it.
The 1st photo, the one with the shot of desert Suburbia is very likely a window view. There is no alteration to the image, nothing staged, and it just happened. Which makes it more of a mirror than the second image. Also the 1st image has a very high tones especially with the baby who is playing by the garage which is a very high contrast area compared to the 2nd image.
The depth of field for both images are very close in to extensive view. The viewpoint of both images are close to eye level but drifts slightly to higher and little below. The 1st image has more negative space than the second one. Due to the second image being set up for the particular shot, unlike the first image which was shot on the fly.
So that is my opinion on the two images displayed.
