HW 8: Final Project Statement and Mood Board

Theme: Perfume Photography

For my final project, I want to photograph perfume bottles. Specifically, because I have a lot of perfume bottles of my own. But, I like the aesthetic of photographs of perfume bottles in advertisements. Perfume to me is the pretty intricate bottles, the color of the liquid, the shape, and the smell. Perfume to me holds memories. Every perfume I have holds a memory because the fragrance holds a memory of the day it was worn. That to me means a lot and it makes me happy. For this final project, I want to showcase the beauty of perfume. I will not be showcasing any expensive or luxury branded perfumes whether I have them or not. I want to show that even simple smells and sprays can be profound in their own way. I want to highlight the intricate details of the bottle as well as the contents of the bottle. Such as the body the top and the sprayer/atomizer. It works by converting the liquid perfume into a fine mist, allowing for controlled and even application of the fragrance. I want to include close-ups as well as different angles and the full body of the perfume bottle. I want to showcase the liquid and it being sprayed. I want to put interesting and complimenting backgrounds with the fragrance. I want to include interesting textures and colors to capture the essence of each design. I want to include lighting techniques I learned in class to accentuate the bottle and its features. Therefore to create visually captivating images. Some specific actions I would like to take when taking my photos are to add some water droplets, and water splashes, use reflections, bright and dark areas, and add some contrast. I want to show the emotional appeal of the fragrances. I want the viewer to be able to smell the bottle of the fragrance with just the use of their eyes. I want the viewers to appreciate the bottle, to want the bottle. Even without smelling it, they know that it smells good. Just like how fragrance bottle advertisements do now. Those capture my eye.

HW 8: Final Project Statement and Mood Board

I planned that the subject of my final photography would be an owner and his/her pet. Because after the COVID, many of my friends started to have a pet, I also have a cat and a dog. I want to show the close relationships between pets and pets, as well as between pets and people. I plan to go to a different dog park every weekend so that I can capture some of the interactions between dogs, the moments of interaction between different owners and their dogs, and the interactions between owners and their dogs. I will also ask people in the community group in the community where I live if they would like to let me take pictures at home. This can show the quiet time of cats and dogs at home, and also show the warmer moments between owners and pets. My shooting schedule was for the weekend and I knew my average doggy chances would be in the afternoon. I might also go to a friend’s house at night. Or take pictures of cats sleeping when the sun is shining. I will use shutter speed, focus, portait, and I will also try shooting from different angles, etc.

The theme I chose for the Final Project is people and surroundings; street photography. I think that my personal enjoyment in drawing people and scenery is the reason why I settled on this theme. I would like to take a range of photos of different people going about their life in different settings, which is what’s going to be my subject matter. Whether it’s playing sports, running, sitting, talking with others or people simply walking by. These types of photos tend to freeze different and raw expressions and emotions, which for me, personally helps make the photo become more intimate, or touching. For instance, if a photo shows a group of people playing basketball and smiling, I would mirror that expression. It’s cool to be able to capture a candid moment of enjoyment and wholesomeness. I find it a bit comical when people look directly at the camera, but at the same time, I think that it helps embody dominance or confidence in that person. Through these photos, I’d like to portray peoples’ lives on a regular day, most likely done around a couple of different areas throughout my neighborhood, so that the backgrounds are not repetitive. I’d like to add a few long shots of the scenery, so that there’s an overall idea of where the people are. Plus, it can be used as a reference of how the neighborhood looked like for the years ahead. I’ll take these photos during and/or throughout the day. The aforementioned surroundings would include buildings, parks, streets, etc. I want to attempt to show various types of people, young and old, groups and individuals, carrying out different activities and expressing different emotions in different settings using techniques like medium shots, long shots, perspective, leading lines, filling the frame and symmetry.
