Overview

The final project is to assemble the semester’s work in an online portfolio. It shows how far your work has come; it is evidence that you are a designer.

The Process book is a serious project, and is meant to show how an idea became a finished project. It also shows the ability to organize progress into a storyline: the story of your design journey throughout the weeks in this class.

Learning Outcomes

  • The ability to discern and select the best content for an online publication
  • Being able to design a book using grid, typography, image editing and pacing skills
  • Keeping deadlines, developing craft, maintaining an archive of one’s work

Instructions

  1. Begin by gathering all the work done throughout the semester. It will involve both culling the digital files and adjusting them, and photographing or scanning the printed or analog assets.
  2. Plan the publication by making a sketched dummy–either on paper or digitally. Make master pages in InDesign, choose the fonts, design a grid or use the Golden Ratio grid. If necessary, make a style book.
  3. Open a free account on ISSUU.com. This is where the zine will reside.

Due Date(s)

  • Updates are due as posted; the final finished book is due on the last day of class, December 18. ALL MUST ATTEND the final critique.
