A City Tech OpenLab Course Site

Category: Class Introductions (Page 3 of 3)

Hello my name is Christian I am 19 I love listening to music, watching movies and playing video games I am also picking up new hobbies in quarantine like drawing and reading more,  and in this off time we all have i’ve been inspired by a person who died in 2009, Michael Jackson his music is so amazing to me and his lyrics have such rich meaning i just love listening to his music, also this online learning is a bit difficult to traverse something hopefully i can get the hang of it and i look forward to working with everyone this semester.

Introductions

Hey my name is Rashon M. but I prefer Ra, I’m a computer info systems major, I turn 18 in about a week and my favorite color is yellow. I’m not too sure if the picture I have chosen has been uploaded but  is a picture of my favorite character Rock Lee from the show Naruto. I have chosen that picture because its my home screen and also because the things Rock Lee stands for are able to be implemented in real life situations. I’m hopeful that since I am a little familiar with online learning that the learning curve isn’t too steep. However, I’m worried that the lack of communication between student and teacher may cause a disconnect, and if that disconnect isn’t managed or addressed students who don’t know how to use sites like blackboard, openlab, or cunyfirst may be lost. Regardless I look forward to working with everyone and I wish luck upon all for this semester.

Thank you.

Welcome!!!

Hi Everyone,
Welcome to CUNY! Let’s share a little bit about our passions and hopes.
For myself, I love reading, writing for fun, dogs, designing crazy cakes, playing with children, particularly silly ones, and teaching literature about monsters like Frankenstein and Dracula. I also have a son who keeps me on my toes ALL THE TIME!History of Teaching: I have been teaching at New York City College of Technology for nineteen years (possibly since before you were born—yikes!) I love working with students on their writing, and have come up with a few tricks over the years that I look forward to sharing with you…

My education: I went to college at Boston University and then received an MFA from Columbia.  Both schools were excellent, but I felt oddly more involved at BU, a bigger school but with more encouraging professors.  I loved college and felt excited about possibly staying in it forever, so I became a professor.

Struggles: When I was in college, I was disorganized and confused, always skipped orientations and then was confused when I was disoriented. I usually had to rely on good luck to get assignments turned in on time, or to have a pen to take notes (that took real luck). Now I’m wildly organized and have folders and planners and all kinds of alarms and notifications to keep me on the straight and narrow. So if you ever struggle with just plain ole’ manageability, please feel free to reach out to me! I know how it feels and I know how to help.

But the most important thing to know about me is that I love teaching. I am so happy that I get to work with you and my hope is that I can help you through this trying time. The fact that you chose to enroll in college during these unprecedented challenges says a lot about your characters. I am thrilled that I get to work with you this semester.
WELCOME.
